Top Five Picks

No. 5 Sebastian Vettel

The 31-year-old German doesn’t have a victory this year, but Sebastian Vettel has recorded two second place finishes (Monaco, Canada) and another pair of third place finishes at China and  Azerbaijan. Not only that, but this wily veteran also finished third in this race a year ago and second in 2017. If anyone falters, Vettel could be there to pick up the pieces in a hurry!

No. 4 Charles Leclerc

The 21-year-old native of Monaco is one of Formula One’s up-and-coming stars and he’s currently in fifth place in the standings. While I’m not picking him for the outright upset win, Leclerc has three third place finishes this year and another trio of fifth place finishes. Leclerc is talented, but he’s young and inexperienced right now which is why I’ve got him finishing fourth here!

No. 3 Valtteri Bottas

First and foremost, Bottas won the only two races of the year that Lewis Hamilton hasn’t. In addition to that, he’s also got an impressive four second place finishes and reached the podium seven times in eight tries this year. Oh, did I forget to mention that Bottas also won this event in 2017? I’m going with the 29-year-old native of Finland to finish in the top three, but really, he’s quite capable of getting the outright win!

No. 2 Max Verstappen

Verstappen doesn’t have a win this year, but he’s recorded at least 12 points in every single race on this year’s docket. More importantly, the 21-year-old Belgian won this race last year and he’s recorded two top 2 finishes in the last three races at Red Bull Ring. If I had to pick one guy to upset Lewis, it’s Max Verstappen!

No. 1 Lewis Hamilton

We’re eight races into the 2019 F1 season and 34-year-old Brit, Lewis Hamilton has won a whopping six times, including four straight victories coming into this event, including last weekend’s French Grand Prix. Oh, did I forget to mention that Hamilton has also finished in second place in the two races he didn’t win this year (Australia and Azerbaijan)? While Hamilton has only won this event once in his illustrious career (2016), he’s also bagged an insane 14 of the last 19 F1 races heading into this event. Maybe it’s me, but I just can’t bring myself to bet against Hamilton for the win, although the thought foolishly crossed m mind for a split second. Yeah…I’m going with Hamilton for the win and yo u should too!
