Formula 1 is one of the most watched global sports, yet you have to say that over the past decade or so, it has become more than a little predictable. The reality is that we had basically reached a point where the biggest question to be answered was how many points Lewis Hamilton would win the World Championship by. Heading into this season, Hamilton has the chance to win his 8th title, with most fans assuming that he would get it. That has not proven to be the case, though, as he is playing catch-up at the moment. In fact, last weekend in France felt like a little bit of a passing of the torch, with Max Verstappen running down Hamilton on the final couple of laps to win again. Who will dominate in Austria this weekend? Let’s try to find that out so you can make your bets against their Formula 1 odds.
Formula 1 Betting Analysis for the BWT Grosser Preis Der Steiermark 2021
Max Verstappen -110
This will be the first of two back-to-back races in Austria, the home of Red Bull Racing, which might lead you to believe that Verstappen is hands down the favorite to win. He has certainly been in great form and has now won 2 of the last 3 races. He failed to finish in Azerbaijan, but he had completed enough of that race to pick up some points. That race was the only time in which Verstappen has finished outside of the top 2 this season, which is why he currently has the lead at the top of the Formula 1 driver standings. He finished 3rd in this race in 2020 and has not really had a ton of joy in Austria. Still, he needs to be considered one of the favorites.
Lewis Hamilton +165
There is still a lot of racing to come this season, but even at this relatively early stage, you do have to say that the champion is on the ropes. Now, is that because Hamilton has taken a step back this season or has it more to do with the performance of the Mercedes race cars? When you look at how Valtteri Bottas, Hamilton’s Mercedes teammate, has done this season, you might feel inclined to shift the blame to the constructor. This is not to suggest that Hamilton has been terrible, as he already has 3 wins and a pair of 2nd place finishes, but it is odd to see him sitting off the pace after a bunch of races. He won this race last season and has routinely been top 2 in Austria.
Valtteri Bottas +1000
For the past few years, there has been a huge gulf between the top 3 drivers in F1 and the rest of the pack. With Sergio Perez switching to Red Bull this past offseason and already picking up a win in 2021, there is a sense that the gap might be closing. For Bottas, this has been a bit of a troubling season, as he has already had a pair of races where he has been forced to retire. Unless he goes in a tear from here on out, we are looking at a 2-horse race. Still, Bottas, when on his game, is always a threat to win. He does have 2 wins in his last 3 runs at this track, so keep that in mind when you wager.
