One of the great things about being a fan of NASCAR is that you don’t need to wait too long between seasons. Unlike the NFL, which has a ridiculously long offseason, NASCAR is back in business a few months after closing out their season. With the Calendar now flipped over into 2022, we are now only a matter of weeks way from the start of the new season, which comes in February. That’s not a lot of time for Kyle Larson to celebrate his brilliant win in 2021, but it’s brilliant for those of us who cannot wait for another Cup Series season to get underway. The bookies have revealed their odds for the upcoming season, and you have to say that there are no real surprises. Let’s take a look at the early favorites so you can start planning your bets against their NASCAR Championship odds.
2022 NASCAR Cup Series Championship – Odds To Win
Kyle Larson (+270)
The 2020 season was a difficult one for every driver and every team, but it was especially tough for Larson. After running just 4 races, he was involved in an e-racing incident where he used a racial slur that resulted in a suspension for the rest of the year. He had a lot to prove upon his return and he did it in some considerable style. Larson won a staggering 10 races in the 2021 season, including a playoff run that saw him win 4 of the last 5 races. He was about as worthy a champion as you can get, but can he carry that momentum over into the new season? Given these early odds, the bookies seem to think that he can.
Chase Elliott (+400)
After a breakout season in 2020, Elliott came into last year looking for a Cup Series repeat. He would ultimately fall short, but he was in it all the way to the finish. While he only managed to pick up 2 wins on the season, he consistently racked up points and did enough to keep moving on once the playoffs began. Elliott made it all the way into the final four, but he finished 5th in the final race of the season in Phoenix, which meant that he ended up finishing 4th in the overall standings. Not a bad season at all and we would expect another strong one in 2021.
Denny Hamlin (+750)
If you want to talk about consistency and a legitimate championship challenger, you need to talk about Denny Hamlin. This is a guy that doesn’t win a lot of races, but who is consistently up among the leaders, picking up points at a steady rate. That helps explain why he has been to the final four in each of the last 3 seasons and looks a good bet to do it again this year. The big question now is whether he can take that next big step and win it all.
William Byron (+750)
In what is perhaps a bit of a surprise, we have William Byron in among the favorites to win the Cup Series this coming season. At just 24 years of age, Byron is still very early in his career, although eh now has 4 full seasons under his belt at this level. His 10th overall finish last season was his best yet, but can we expect even more from him this season?
