The quest to Hamilton starts now! Put the regular season behind because none of that matters now. Three teams from the East and three teams from the West battling to win the 108th grey cup. The Toronto Argonauts and Winnipeg Blue Bombers will have to wait until next week to get their chop at the tree. Toronto and Winnipeg won their divisions, so they got a bye week. The matchup in the East is being played in Ontario, and it’s the Montreal Alouettes facing off against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. The winner of that match will play Toronto next week. The matchup in the West is being played in Saskatchewan; it’s the Calgary Stampeders against the Saskatchewan Roughriders! It’s postseason football, and it doesn’t get much better than this! Let’s jump right into action so you can bet against the CFL odds.
2021 CFL Eastern Division and Western Division Semi-Finals Betting Preview
Eastern Semi-Final: Montreal Alouettes (7-7) @ Hamilton Tiger-Cats (8-6)
When Vernon Adams Jr. went down, people doubted Montreal. They didn’t think they would compete and figured their offense would go down the toilet. However, trading for Trevor Harris changed this team’s path, and they found themselves, yet again, in the mix for the Grey Cup! Montreal’s offense leads the CFL in yards and is second in points. William Stanback has also been a key part of this elite team. Stanback is the CFL leader in carries, yards, and 20 yard runs! Don’t forget about the swarming bird defense! They have been a great unit this year! They are second in yards allowed and second in pass defense! This Alouettes team is ready to get to the next round!
To go onto the next round, they will have to go against a very tough Tiger-Cats team! Their top-tier defense has led the Tigercats. You can’t talk about Hamilton without talking about Cariel Brooks and Simoni Lawrence. This season, Brooks leads the CFL in INTs with five, and Lawrence has three interceptions, including two pick-sixes! Their overall defense ranks third in yards, second in rushing yards, and second in points allowing under 20 PPG! Their offense has been scattered with injuries, yet they have been able to find a way to win. The Ti-Cats offensive ranks 7th in yards and 5th in points, but they manage to top because of their defense.
This Montreal team is just far superior to Hamilton. Every time these teams faced off this year, Montreal has been able to sling the rock, and this team has only gotten better since they’ve played. The Alouettes will come out on top and prepare to come back to Hamilton in the Grey Cup!
Western Semi-Final: Calgary Stampeders (8-6) @ Saskatchewan Roughriders (9-5)
Calgary has had its fair share of ups and downs this season. They have been riddled with inconsistent play this season. When this team played poorly, it was poor. When this team played well, they were good! Bo Levi Mitchell is the heart and soul of this Stampeders team. He ranks 4th in yards and 7th in touchdowns. Make what you will of that, but he’s only played nine games this season!
Nonetheless, the Stampeders have the third-ranked offense this season. The Stampeders defense has been shutting down that end zone allowing under 20 points per game! This Stampeders team has been riddled with injuries, so don’t let these stats lead you astray.
Saskatchewan is never a team to overlook. Cody Fajardo has been one of the best passers this season. He is the reason that the Roughriders are in this position. He is third in passing yards and second in passing touchdowns. He is also versatile on his legs. He ranks 7th in rushing yards and 5th in rushing touchdowns. It seems there is nothing this man can’t do! This offense still does not stack up the best against the others. They rank 7th in points and 8th in yards. But their record speaks for themselves. Defensively, they have been solid as well, ranking 4th in yards and 4th in points.
The Roughriders will still manage to come up with this win. Fajardo will put on one of the best performances of the year and lockdown Calgary. They will head to Winnipeg and play one excellent Blue Bomber team!
