Overrated Teams That Won’t Beat the NCAA Football Odds This Season

We are about 3 months away from the kick-off of the 2016 college football season, but that doesn’t mean we can’t start breaking down each of the teams that might have a legitimate shot at making the playoffs. This is something that everyone does at this time of year, and there are multiple top 25 lists posted all over the internet. When you look at those lists, you start to see a lot of familiar names, including teams that are sure to leave some fans scratching their heads. Every year sees a few teams given high rankings that they perhaps don’t deserve, and this year doesn’t look to be any different. The college football betting odds that are up now will have some of these teams listed at pretty short prices, but there are a few that I would not even consider putting my money on. Let’s take a look at a few teams who appear to be a little overrated heading into this season.

USC Trojans (+5500)

There can be no denying that this is a team absolutely loaded with talent, but have you taken a look at their schedule? They get their season rolling with a neutral site game versus the defending champion Alabama Crimson Tide, but that’s just the start. The Trojans also have to hit the road to play Stanford, UCLA, Washington, Arizona, and Utah. Do you really see this team coming away with 5 or 6 wins out of that batch?

LSU Tigers (+1100)

Let’s look at what this team is bringing to the table: a potential Heisman winning RB, a couple of huge play makers at the WR position, a domination defense, and some question marks at the QB position. What that all adds up to is the same formula as last season, and that did not end well for the Tigers. A similar outcome to last season and coach Les Miles could well be updating his resume.

Tennessee Volunteers (+1200)

The Volunteers made some pretty big strides last season, losing only 4 games, all of which were by a single score or less. They have a number of big name starter returning to the fold, and the belief is that they will take another step forward this year. The one thing that everyone seems to be forgetting is that they still need to get out of the SEC to land in the playoffs, and there are probably at least 3 or 4 teams better than this group in that conference alone.

Ohio State Buckeyes (+650)

This may be a pick that has a lot of people crying foul, but the big problem that Ohio State are facing is having to replace a number of important starters who went into the NFL draft. Yes, the bigger programs can usually make a pretty seamless transition when that happens, but there are an awful lot of things that could go wrong for the Buckeyes in the replacement department. They are also facing a tougher schedule than they have had in recent years.
