Oscar Betting Predictions for Best Song and Best Animated Feature
94th Academy Awards Oscars Ceremony
- When: Sunday, March 27
- Where: Dolby Theatre, Hollywood, CA
- TV / Streaming: ABC
Best Song Nominations & Odds
- No Time to Die – No Time to Die -280
- Dos Oruguitas – Encanto +240
- Be Alive – King Richard +700
- Down To Joy – Belfast +3300
- Somehow You Do – Four Good Days +4000
The Best Song nominations surprised big time. Outside of No Time to Die from Billie Eilish, none of the other nominees were on anybody’s radar. Dos Oruguitas isn’t the song many felt would grab the nom from Encanto.
Most believed We Don’t Talk About Bruno would get the nomination, which explains why Eilish’s tune is such a big favorite. But after listening to the two top choices after multiple times, Lin-Manuel Miranda’s song, Dos Oruguitas, deserves the nod.
There’s nothing wrong with Eilish’s song. But Dos Oruguitas is a catchy tune that says a lot in a simple way. It’s close to perfect.
Dos Oruguitas is the top pick. The underdog choice is Van Morrison’s Down To Joy. The song from the movie Belfast is classic Van with horns and everything.
It’s not one of Morrison’s best, definitely not on the level of anything on Astral Weeks. But it is a good song and Van is a living legend. So it has a shot.
Best Song Top Pick: Dos Oruguitas
Best Song Underdog Pick: Down To Joy
Best Animated Feature Nominations & Odds
- Encanto -350
- Flee +500
- Luca +500
- The Mitchells vs. the Machines +1000
- Raya and The Last Dragon +2800
The question regarding Best Animated Feature is whether the Academy is ready to consider animated films as medium for children and adults. If the Academy believes animated movies aren’t just for children but can also be for adults, Flee wins.
If not, Encanto wins. The fact that Flee grabbed the nomination doesn’t mean the Academy has changed their minds. So Encanto is a deserving favorite. But the odds on Encanto make it unplayable, so the movie about a gay man escaping Kabul during the rise of the Taliban as a child is the pick.
The Mitchells vs. the Machines is the underdog choice. The movie is an old-fashioned adventure film about human beings fighting robots. So it probably won’t win. But if the Academy wants to give a golden statue to an old school film, The Mitchells vs. the Machines grabs the statue.
Best Animated Feature Top Pick: Flee
Best Animated Feature Underdog Pick: The Mitchells vs. the Machines
