2021 Formula 1 Championship Odds Update: Verstappen and Hamilton Tied in 1st Place

Written by on December 6, 2021

This has arguably been the most exciting season that we have ever seen in Formula 1. We have had surprises, controversy, and, perhaps most important of all, a battle for the World Championship that is as close as it gets. With just one race remaining on the season, we have Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen sitting tied with 369.5 points. What that means is that the driver who has the better finish in Abu Dhabi in the final race of the season will be the one who will end the year as the champion. Given how things have gone to this point, predicting how this one will go is no easy feat. It’s time to check out our Formula 1 Betting analysis so you can get all set to place your bets against the Formula 1 Championship Odds.

Updated Odds to Win 2021 Formula 1 Drivers Championship

Verstappen Looking to Get his 1st Title, Hamilton Wants his 8th to Set All-time Record

Lewis Hamilton, who is looking for his record-setting 8th world title, looked to be out of a few weeks ago, but he has shown the heart of a champion and comes into the final race of the year on a 3-race win streak. The only downside there is that Verstappen has finished 2nd in all 3 of those races, picking up enough points to keep Hamilton out of the top spot. If we had a situation where neither one of these drivers was able to finish the final race, Verstappen would take the title based on the fact that he has the most wins (9) this season.

While both drivers are coming into the final race of 2021 facing a great deal of pressure, you would have to say that the majority of it rests on the shoulders of Max Verstappen. After finishing 3rd in the overall standings in each of the last 2 seasons, the Dutchman has made a breakthrough and is now on the brink of his first world championship. On the plus side for Verstappen is that he won the final race of the season in Abu Dhabi last year, although it is worth remembering that Hamilton had already clinched weeks before and didn’t need the win on the last day of the 2020 season. Verstappen is in at +190 for the race this weekend.

That brings us to the defending champion and the man chasing history this weekend. While his 8 wins on the season are not to be sneezed at, it is still a bit of a down season for Hamilton in terms of victories. After all, he won 11 races in a shortened 2020 season to walk away with the title, so the drop off in wins gives you an idea of just how hard Hamilton has been pushed by Verstappen this season. The 3-straight wins that he has coming into this race is what we really need to pay attention to here, as this looks like a champion imposing his will on the rest of the pack as he goes in search of history. Hamilton is in as the favorite in Abu Dhabi, and for good reason, as he has won there frequently during his career. We can toss out his 3rd place finish last season, as it was a meaningless race. In the years prior, he won 4 out of 6 on this track, which is why he is in as the favorite at -200.
