Brazilian Grand Prix | F1 Betting Preview
Following a disappointing run in the Mexican qualifiers on Saturday, Max Verstappen came back to win the 2021 Mexican Grand Prix, thus collecting his ninth victory of the season and extending his lead ahead of Lewis Hamilton to 19 points. However, the season is still far from over, as there are four more races left to go and 107 points left up for grabs.
The 2021 Formula One World Championship season heads to the Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace in Interlagos in Brazil for the 19th round of the season, where we will see the continuation of the battle between Verstappen and Hamilton.
This race was last held in 2019 when Verstappen claimed his maiden victory on the track – but can he do it again and take one step closer to the world champion title?
Max Verstappen (-180)
Max Verstappen finished third in the Mexican Grand Prix qualifiers and was clearly frustrated with his performance. It was somewhat of an upset, seeing how Valtteri Bottas finished first and Hamilton in second, and while Mercedes had a solid start to the weekend, their excitement was rather short-lived.
Verstappen ended up claiming the Mexican Grand Prix with a +16.555s lead ahead of Hamilton, marking his ninth W of the season. With that, Verstappen increased his lead on the Drivers’ Championship to 19 points and will look to make it 25 this weekend.
One of the big reasons why Verstappen was so successful in Mexico was the high altitude of the track, resulting in much thinner air. Luckily for Red Bull, their engines work flawlessly in such situations, which is a trait Mercedes lacks.
And the thin air will come into play again as Sao Paulo is approximately 2500 ft (760m) above sea level. Beyond the favorable conditions for Verstappen, the Dutchman is also in excellent form and is driving the fastest car. There is not a lot that would suggest Verstappen can’t win.
Lewis Hamilton (+220)
Lewis Hamilton will want to bounce back after his runner-up finish in Mexico, and while he has the talent to do so, it seems unlikely that the Brit will manage to overtake Verstappen. Beyond the conditions that will be present at the elevated track, Hamilton has finished behind Verstappen across the last three races and has managed to defeat the Dutch only once across the last seven.
What’s more, the Brazilian track features plenty of low and medium-speed turns, which suits Red Bull better than Mercedes, who would prefer a high-speed circuit. All in all, there isn’t a lot that would suggest Hamilton can win, although we’re ready for the seven-time champion to prove us wrong.
Sergio Perez (+1000)
Like Verstappen, Sergio Perez will enjoy the favorable conditions in Brazil, making him one of the top contenders to win. Admittedly, it’s unlikely for Perez to defeat both Hamilton and Verstappen; however, he should be considered as a threat for a podium finish.
Perez has done well in Mexico, where he claimed bronze. He finished the race ahead of Pierre Gasly and just over a second behind Hamilton. Even in the United States Grand Prix, Perez did not disappoint, claiming third, 10s ahead of the fourth-placed Charles Leclerc.
And if we look further back, Perez has also finished third in Turkey, so it’s fair to say that the Mexican driver is in great form and ready to do some damage. Of course, we wouldn’t count on Perez to cause an upset and win his second race of the season, but a podium finish shouldn’t escape him.
