2017 PGA Quicken Loans National Odds, Overview & Picks

The PGA season is not yet really winding down, but the scramble for FedEx Cup points is now very real, as there are only 10 events left before the playoffs begin. This weekend sees some of the tour’s best head to Washington DC to play in the Quicken Loans National, which will be held at the TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm course. This will be the first time that this event has been held at this course, and there will be 120 players looking to grab a share of the $7.1 million purse, with $1.278 million going to the winner. We are going to have a look at some of the favorites for this event, as well as a few potential sleeper picks, and we are also going to make a prediction on who will win.

PGA Quicken Loans National Favorites

Rickie Fowler (+650)

We last saw Fowler at the US Open, where he put in a solid performance and ended up tied for 5th. Fowler does have a win on tour this season, picking up the title at the Honda Classic. He has 6 top 10 finishes to go with that win and is currently sitting in 9th in the FedEx Cup standings. He looks like the man to beat this weekend, and I certainly think he will be in the top 5.

Justin Thomas (+1000)

Thomas is having himself a career year in 2017, with 3 tour wins under his belt so far, which is good enough to put him in 3rd in the FedEx Cup standings. He finished in the top 10 at the US Open, and while he missed the cut at his last event, I think he is the player who is going to win it all this weekend.

Patrick Reed (+1100)

Reed would ordinarily be considered a bit of a longshot, but among this group, he has a legitimate shot at winning. He does not have a victory on the tour this season, but does have 5 career wins under his belt. He has been in form in his last two tournaments, going well at the US Open and finishing tied for 5th at the Travelers.

Kevin Chappell (+1800)

This is a player who seems to play his best golf at the tougher courses on the tour, and that is a category that the TPC Potomac certainly falls under. Chappell has 1 win and a trio of top 10 finishes this season, with his victory coming at the Valero Texas Open. He may be among the favorites, but I don’t see him being a serious contender this weekend.

Marc Leishman (+1800)

The Australian had a win this season at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, and has landed in the top 20 in 3 of his last 5 tournaments. He is another one that is perhaps not as good as his odds here would suggest. I would be looking elsewhere when wagering on this event.

Bill Haas (+2500)

Haas has won this tournament before, so should automatically be considered a threat to do so again. He put in a solid performance at the US Open, tying for 5th, and playing consistently well through all 4 rounds. Well worth a look here.

Kevin Streelman (+4000)

This is a man in a rich vein of form right now, as he has finished in the top 10 in each of his last 3 events, including an 8th place finish at the Travelers last weekend. He could well be one that hangs around and makes a run on Sunday.

David Hearn (+8000)

Fear can be a great motivator, and that is what may be working for David Hearn right now. This is a player that looks as though he really wants to retain his PGA card, as he has put together back to back top 10 finishes in his last two events. Look for another solid performance from the Canadian golfer this weekend.
