Mystic Guide a +225 shot to win the Dubai World Cup

Let’s start with the Dubai World Cup since it happens hours before the Florida Derby. Grade 3 Razorback winner Mystic Guide is a big time underlay at the current MyBookie odds.

Although the Michael Stidham trainee should be the chalk, he shouldn’t offer odds any lower than +350. Why is Mystic Guide such a huge underlay?

Mishriff, Charlatan, and Knicks Go, the Saudi Cup winner, second-place, and fourth-place finishers won’t run in the World Cup. Without those three, the race has come up soft in regards to overall talent.

Mystic Guide impressed when winning the Razorback, but this is a short turnaround. Also, Military Law returns to his home track and both Jesus Team and Sleepy Eyes Todd may be sitting on big races. All three deserve a look, especially, Jesus Team.

The Jose D’Angelo trained runner has finished either first or second in his last three races, including finishing second in the BC Dirt Mile last November and second in the Pegasus World Cup in January.

There isn’t a ton of speed in this, which means Jesus Team could inherit the lead. Who knows? If Mystic Guide and Military Law aren’t at the top of their games, the Tapiture sired runner could go gate-to-wire.

The best looking longshots are Chuwa Wizard and Sleepy Eyes Todd. Chuwa won the Grade 1 Champions Cup in December. The +1200 underdog bombed badly in the Saudi Cup. A return to form could happen.

Sleepy Eyes Todd finished fifth in the Saudi Cup. Todd finished fourth in the Pegasus World Cup and won the Grade 3 Mr. Prospector in December. With the right trip, Sleepy could get it done on Saturday.

Greatest Honour out to prove he’s on Essential Quality’s and Concert Tour’s level

Earlier this week, Bob Baffert said Life Is Good won’t run in any Triple Crown race. Last week’s top-rated horse in our rankings came out of a work injured.

With Baffert’s biggest gun back in the cabinet, Bob’s other major three-year-old leaps to number one. On Saturday, our fifth ranked runner, Greatest Honour, can prove he’s worthy of being in the Top 3.

On paper, the 6/5 morning line should have no trouble winning the race. But Greatest Honour is a closer and closers depend on decent trips to win races. There’s no guarantee Honour has too much work to do as they turn for home, which is why those playing the Florida Derby may want to consider 5/1 choice Known Agenda or 4/1 on the morning line Spielberg.

The Florida Derby will be Spielberg’s ninth lifetime race. That’s a lot of running for a three-year-old. It’s a ton of running for a Bob Baffert trained three-year-old. Spielberg has shown signs of being a Kentucky Derby contender. But the Baffert runner would have to take a massive forward leap to win the Florida Derby.

After Known Agenda ran awful in the Grade 3 Sam F. Davis, trainer Todd Pletcher entered the Curlin sired colt in an allowance at Gulfstream. Agenda dominated his allowance foes by 11 lengths. If he takes another step forward, the Pletcher runner could beat Greatest Honour.

Collaborate is an interesting horse. The Saffie Joseph trained equine broke the maiden in the last. Mark Casse enters undefeated Soup and Sandwich. At 20/1 odds, the Into Mischief sired runner could be the one to back.

Casse has turned into a decent Kentucky Derby trainer. War of Will may have won the 2019 Derby if not for Maximum Security’s infraction. Soup and Sandwich has a real shot.

Even if you don’t bet the Florida Derby, make sure to watch it. If Greatest Honour is as good as the morning line implies, the Bill Mott trainee decimates his competition and become a Derby favorite in the process.
