Fonner Park Picks for Wednesday, April 15

Race 6 – 7:15 pm ET – 6 Furlongs Dirt – $7,000 Allowance

31% at the meet winning trainer Kelli Martinez puts the saddle on 4-year-old filly Chickes Done. The Itsmyluckyday runner bumped at the break in her first against winners. She made a nice 4-wide move but there was no way she was going to catch the horses in front of her. The third-place finish sets her up well for this.

Pretty Rich finished second in her first against winners. She lost by 5 ¾ lengths, but if she runs back to the maiden score, she can win. There’s other speed in this, though. That makes her a tough play on top.

Jason Wise takes over training duties for 3-year-old filly Who’s the Diva Now. Jockey Jake Olesiak knows Fonner well. He should have the front runner on top as they motor around the final turn. Will she hang on? Probably not but a top 3 finish is more than possible.

  • Win: Chickes Done
  • Place: Pretty Rich

Race 8 – 8:09 pm ET – 1 Mile Dirt – $5,000 Claiming

Trainer Gary Luke almost conditioned Best Trick Yet to a win as an over 86/1 Horse Racing Odds  shot in the 7-year-old gelding’s last. Trick could bounce. But there’s also a chance the 6/1 morning line drifts to around 8 to 10 to 1. Maybe, Best Trick Yet takes the lead and keeps going. Don’t discount for the win. If the odds are juicy, why not?

Country Summer is a closer in a race that lacks speed. But the 8-year-old has gotten stuck on the inside in its last couple of races. If we go back 3 races, notice how well this one performed when allowed to settle and rally from the outside? There isn’t a ton of speed. So, it’s hard to make Country Summer first. Second is a real possibility, though.

Smokin B showed great promise when breaking its maiden at first asking for John Sadler last May at Santa Anita. Sadler never discovered this one’s best level. Neither did Robertino Diodoro, which is why Smokin shows up in a $5,000 claimer at Fonner on Wednesday. The pattern suggeststhe gelding races well in this. Odds shouldn’t drift much lower than the 5/2 because Smokin B goes from Diodoro to an unknown barn.

  • Win: Best Trick Yet
  • Place: Country Summer
  • Show: Smokin B

Race 9 – 8:36 pm ET – 1 Mile Dirt – $15,000 Dowd Mile Stakes

Ted W is 3-0 in 3 races at Fonner Park. The 9-year-old gelding has moved up with each race, winning a $7.5 claimer, a $10K optional claimer, and a $15K stakes. The gelding has raced at Churchill, Keeneland, and Del Mar. Ted W’s class should lead it to a fourth straight win.

Trainer Marissa Black, who wins at 21%, has a couple of contenders in here. The choice for first is 4/1 on the morning line Horse Racing Odds  Blue Harbor. The Rockport Harbor sired 8-year-old gelding made a serious move to finish second by a length behind stablemate Mr. Tickle in its last.

Mr. Tickle is 8-1-1 in its last 10. But the other Black trained runner should offer no value. Also, the form should turn eventually. Why not in this stakes race on Thursday?

  • Win: Ted W
  • Place: Blue Harbor
  • Show: Mr. Tickle
