Fonner Park Picks for Wednesday, May 6
Race 4 – 6:21 pm ET – 6 Furlongs Dirt – $7,000 Allowance
Trainer Kelli Martinez wins 31% at Fonner Park. But Martinez is 4% with last-out maiden winners. Still, Alex of Ice looks like the horse to beat in Race 4. If Alex of Ice runs back to any of the gelding’s last 4 races, it should win this. Jockey Armando Martinez has rode Alex of Ice in the top choice’s last 3. Lack of familiarity will not be a concern.
There’s a good chance jockey Francisco Arrieta tries to go for the lead aboard second choice Bell Ringer. The 5/2 morning line chalk finished second at this level on April 22. If nobody presses, gate-to-wire is a possibility.
Trainer Isai Gonzalez wins 33% with horses going second time. Eastside Boy gets that set-up. The closer’s win chances rely on pace. Eastside Boy should get into the trifecta even if it’s a slow pace.

Race 5 – 6:48 pm ET – 6 Furlongs Dirt – $10,120 Allowance
7/2 on the morning line Love At Night had a tough go of it in her last. She bumped at the break and then tried to vie between. The Terrell Hemmer trained 7-year-old mare finished eighth by 12 lengths as the favorite. Before the disaster race, Night had won 7-of-9. She should get back on the winning track here.
Phlash Drive lost its last race by 31 lengths. The 4-year-old gelding had won 4 in a row before that. What happened? The last was Phlash Drive’s first at a route of ground. Drive could track Love At Night to the turn before pouncing. Consider for the win if the price is right.
Richard Bliss trains Super Charlie, a 9-year-old gelding that won its last. Before the victory, Charlie had finished third in two straight. The Shadow Hawk sired runner often puts in a good run. So, consider using in all trifecta spots.

Race 8 – 8:09 pm ET – 6 ½ Furlongs Dirt – $5,000 Claiming
5/2 morning line chalk Chuckmate drops from a $10,000 optional claimer where the 10-year-old gelding finished second to this $5,000 claiming race. Jockey Dakota Wood could take the lead or track if someone else wants to set the pace. Either way, this is the dropper’s race to lose.
There doesn’t appear to be a lot of speed in the nightcap, which is why even at a 12/1 morning line Bold Bulldog has a chance to get into the exacta. The Jerry Gourneau trained runner finished eighth in its last. Before the horrible run, Bulldog had put together two decent performances.
Spotitude might close well enough to get into the trifecta. The Richard Bliss trained runner won it’s last. It should face a much softer pace to run into on Wednesday, though. If Chuckmate and Bold Bulldog wing it up front, Spotitude might do enough for the win. That’s a big if.
