Gulfstream Park Picks for Saturday, April 11

Race 10 – 4:45 pm ET – 6 Furlongs Dirt – $75,000 Allowance Optional Claiming

Throw out Chart’s horrible performance in the Grade 2 Davona Dale. The Lea sired 3-year-old filly vied on the rail and had to go a mile first time. It’s tough for any horse to win first time after the maiden. It’s almost impossible to win a Grade 2 after the maiden. The set up in this is much better for Chart. Jockey Tyler Gaffalione can see what the speed to his inside does. Chart got headed and then fought on for a 5 length score in her first race. She can run back to that performance on Saturday.

Last Chance for Love has speed and gets jockey Luis Saez. Luis is the best jock in the world aboard speed types like this one. Trainer Brendan Walsh is winning at 23% at the meet. Not only that but Last Chance for Love is on the outside of all the other speed horses, including Chart. Saez will have this one out front as they turn for home. Hopefully, Chart can catch her.

Both Chart and Last Chance for Love must catch rail horse Boerne. She broke her maiden with a huge speed rating. Although that race was on March 15, trainer Juan Avila hasn’t held off. He worked her 4 furlongs in .46, the best of 113 similar works, on April 4. She grabs the lead from the gate. If nobody runs with her, it’s over.

  • Win: Chart
  • Place: Last Chance for Love
  • Show: Boerne

Race 11 – 5:24 pm ET – 1 1/16 Miles Turf – $35,000 Allowance Optional Claiming

10/1 on the morning line Horse Racing Odds Prince of Arabia hasn’t races since February. When the gelding did, it was on dirt. But Arabia should get an excellent trip under jockey Luca Panici. The speed is to the outside, which means there will be a scramble around that first turn. Panici can get Prince of Arabia to settle right behind that speed, pull out, and then go for home. The odds shouldn’t change much, either.

Supreme Aura gets Paco Lopez to ride, has a turf win on the record, and was sired by Candy Ride. The second choice did most of its best work over Aqueduct’s dirt. Trainer David Fawkes is a believer, though, and with Paco on the gelding’s back we can expect a top effort.

After a fifth place finish, trainer Jorge Abreu sent Conviction Trade to the bench. The 4-year-old colt has a steady work tab. The speed ratings last November through January are good enough to get this one into the trifecta.

  • Win: Prince of Arabia
  • Place: Supreme Aura
  • Show: Conviction Trade

Race 12 – 5:54 pm ET – 6 Furlongs Dirt – $75,000 Allowance Optional Claiming

This race might set up perfectly for the John Kimmel trained Pacific Gale. Jockey Luis Saez takes the call, always a great thing, and Gale breaks from post-position 9 where Luis can gauge the pace and see how hard he must push on the gas pedal early in the race. There is a ton of speed to Luis’ inside. Expect Saez to get Pacific Gale home first.

Liza Star is one of those speedsters. Liza Star could bury Jakarta before they turn for home. It will be up to Luis aboard Pacific Gale to catch this runner. If you don’t believe anybody goes with Star bet her to win. Liza should hold those 6/1 morning line Horse Racing Odds .

Teresa Pompay drops Heiressall from the Grade 3 Hurricane Bertie at 7 furlongs into this 6 furlong race. The 5-year-old mare has a 3-2-1 record from 10 races over Gulfstream’s dirt. She’s got a win and a second from 3 races at the distance. So, consider using on top and bottom of your exotics.

  • Win: Pacific Gale
  • Place: Liza Star
  • Show: Heiressall
