The clock is ticking on the MLB season, and there are still a number of teams with some work to do if they want to get into the playoffs. Both the LA Angels and the Detroit Tigers still feel as though they can get in, but both will also have to improve their baseball odds if they want to land one of those coveted postseason spots. These two will close out a 3-game series on Thursday in Detroit.

Los Angeles Angels vs Detroit Tigers MLB Game Preview

Date/Time: Thursday, August 27th, 1:08 PMVenue: Comerica Park, Detroit, MITV: FS-WRadio: KLAA 830Opening line: Detroit -105, LA Angels -105  The LA Angels (64-61) are just a half game out of the Wild Card at the moment, but they have not been playing very good ball of late. They managed to pull out an 8-7 win against the Tigers in the first game of this series, but they had lost the 4 games prior to that. The Angels are now just 4-6 in their last 10 games, and they have relinquished the Wild Card spot that they had been holding onto for as long as anyone can remember. While they will be pleased to have picked up the win against the Tigers, they will still be concerned about the 7 runs given up in that game. Combine that with the 44 games they gave up in their 4-game losing streak, and you start to see a trend that could well keep them out of the playoffs if they can’t reverse it. Andrew Heaney (5-2, 3.39 ERA) will start for the Angels, and will need to bounce back after a rough start last time out.The Tigers (59-66) are 5.5 games back in the Wild Card race, but the chances of them actually getting into the postseason are pretty much slim to none at this point. They are certainly not doing anything to help their own cause, as the loss to the Angels on Monday saw them extend their losing streak to 5 games. They are having similar problems to the Angels in that they seem to be unable to keep their opponents off the score board right now. They have given up 31 runs in their past 5 games, including 20 in their last two. The fact that they have had to send two of their starting pitchers to the DL is not likely to help their cause, and is one of the main reasons why they are realistically looking at next season as opposed to a playoff spot. Randy Wolf (0-1, 3.86 ERA) will get his second start of the season on Thursday.

Key Betting Trends

  • The total has gone OVER in 5 of LA Angels’s last 5 games
  • LA Angels is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games when playing Detroit
  • The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Detroit’s last 5 games at home
  • The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Detroit’s last 6 games
Neither of these two teams look like playoff caliber at the moment, and this series could well be the end of the road for the Tigers. I think the Angels will manage to put another nail in their coffin on Thursday.Sources:Sports.Yahoo.com (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/9586/)ESPN.go.com (http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/stats/_/id/4087/randy-wolf)
