No team makes it to the World Series without encountering some road blocks along the way. For some, that means having to endure a spell where injuries are a concern, while others will go through parts of the season where it appears as though nothing will go right. The Los Angeles Dodgers are coming off one of those runs, and they now have a tough 3-game road trip to face the St. Louis Cardinals, with the first game set for Friday, where the Cards are -122 online betting favorites.

Time: Friday, 8:15 p.m. ET
Venue: Busch Stadium, St. Louis
National TV: MLB Network
Opening line: Cardinals -122, Dodgers +112 (7.5)

The Dodgers (28-18) have powered their way to the top of the NL West this season, but they recently went through an outage that saw them go scoreless for 35 straight innings. That included a 3-game sweep at the hands of the Giants, who are now hot and closing the gap atop the division. The Dodgers have rebounded quite nicely from that poor patch of form, and have now won 2 straight series against the Padres and the Braves. They went 4-2 during that run, and while they haven’t seen a full return to power, they are at least finding ways to start winning again. As long as they can post W’s, the need to blow teams out can take a back seat. Mike Bolsinger (3-0, 0.71 ERA) will start for LA on Friday. Bolsinger was outstanding in his last start, throwing 8 innings of 1-hit ball.

It looked for a moment as though the St. Louis Cardinals (31-16) might be about to hit one of those rough patches, as they went on a 3-game losing skid last week. All they did was turn that around and start this week by reeling off 4-straight wins, including a 3-game sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks. What many may have missed during the great start to the season is that Matt Holliday now has an on-base streak that has reached 43 games. That gives him the franchise record, and now leaves him just 10 shy of the MLB record of 53 that was set by Derek Jeter back in 1999. John Lackey (2-3, 3.18 ERA) will be on the mound for the Cardinals on Friday. Lackey has been good in his last 3 starts, but still managed to take the loss in 2of them due to poor run support.

Key Betting Trends

The total has gone UNDER in 4 of St. Louis’s last 6 games

Consider This Before Placing Your Bets

The Cardinals bats never seem to deliver with Lackey on the mound, and it won’t help that they will be facing a pitcher with an ERA under 1.00. It is for those reasons that I like the Dodgers to come up with the win.
