There are a number of intriguing battles and races taking place in the NBA as the regular season draws to a close. One of the strangest may well be taking place in the Eastern Conference, where 4 teams, all with sub .500 records, are a half game apart and fighting for the final playoff spot. One of those teams, the Indiana Pacers, will host the Dallas Mavericks at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse on Sunday night as they try to stay with the other NBA betting odds challengers.

NBA Betting Odds Analysis and Game Preview

For a while, it appeared as though the Pacers were going to make it into the playoffs quite easily. They went on a 7-game win streak to start the month of March, lifting themselves into 7th in the conference in the process. The bad news was that they followed that up with a 6-game losing streak that not only pulled them back into the pack, but left them on the outside looking in. If there is anything positive to be gleaned from the games that the Pacers have remaining, it’s that they will face the teams that they are up against for that final spot. That’s not to say that they are totally in control of their own destiny, as they are still going to have to find ways to win games outside of the ones versus the pack who are after the #8 seed. In order for that to happen, they are going to have to find a way to get back to the type of form they were in at the start of the month. On paper, the Dallas Mavericks should be able to handle the Pacers quite handily, but there is a reason that the games are played on hardwood. The Mavericks have been the model of inconsistency for quite some time now, and their 5-5 record in the last 10 games is a pretty good indicator of that. Dallas has made a habit of beating teams that are considered inferior to them, whilst also consistently losing to teams that are playoff bound. That is a habit that they are going to have to break if they hope to have any kind of success in the postseason.

Consider This Before Placing Your Bet

These two teams met up in Indiana last November, and it was the Pacers who came away with the 111-100 win. A repeat of that result would be considered something of a surprise, but it’s one that I think can happen. I’m taking the Pacers to win on the road in this one.
