NBA comes out with less daunting schedule
The NBA provided some clarification on their upcoming restart. Right now, it appears to be much less daunting than so many thought.
Commissioner Adam Silver and most of the players want the restart to happen. However, there has been some concern from some players.
Last week, Kyrie Irving had a players only call. On it, Irving expressed whether it was a wise decision to restart the season during this time. Many NBA players want to join the various protests against police brutality that’s happening throughout the nation.
Kyrie, and some players agreed with him, that spending time quarantined in Orlando area hotels and playing games at Walt Disney World and Resort wouldn’t allow those who wish to join the protests to do so.
Irving has a point. But the NBA restart will likely go on as planned with or without every player’s participation. Some players will participate. Some players won’t.
As Indiana Pacers guard Malcolm Brogden stated in the Wall Street Journal, “It depends on your perspective. Some guys are going to say, ‘For health reasons, like Covid and the long-term effects that we don’t understand about Covid, I want to sit out.’ Other guys are going to say, ‘The black community and my people are going through too much for me to basically be distracted with basketball…Another group of guys are going to say, ‘No, this is the most amount of money I’m going to make in my lifetime. It doesn’t make sense to hand this money back. I can do so much good in my community if I have this money.’”
Per Silver, restart plans on schedule
If the NBA doesn’t run into any more issues, training camps should start on July 9 through July 11. The first day for games is July 30.
Right now, we can’t say for certain if the National Basketball Association will restart their season. There’s a great chance it happens, though. Commissioner Adam Silver and the NBA Players Association have worked through many of the details.
Most everyone is on board with the plan. Even if some players decide to sit out of the restart, Silver has said there won’t be future repercussions while teams can add players for those injured and for those that don’t wish to participate.
