After a weekend full of big games, the college basketball world will slow down and start the new week and month with a very light schedule. After Saturday’s SEC-Big 12 Challenge where we saw ranked teams from both conferences meeting up at a non-traditional point in the schedule, and where we also saw some other ranked matchups, Monday night’s action will pale in comparison. Let’s check out in our latest NCAAB update what’s going on around the league so you can continue making your bets against their College Basketball odds.
NCAA Basketball COVID-19 Update – February 1st Edition
In Monday, February 1st’s slate of games, we will only see three ranked teams in action. The premiere matchup of the evening will see the 24th-ranked Oklahoma Sooners travel to Lubbock to take on the 10th-rated Red Raiders of Texas Tech. The other matchup involving a ranked team will see #25 Louisville host the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in an ACC clash. #23 UCLA was scheduled to face Oregon, but due to COVID-19 issues, that game has been postponed.
Speaking of postponements, it seems as though the college basketball world has been making strides in slowing down it’s issues with COVID. On Monday, only three Division 1 games are postponed. And in looking ahead to Tuesday’s action, at this point, only two games won’t be played due to issues with the coronavirus. This is good news for the NCAA and the college basketball world. As the NCAA Tournament is approaching, everyone would hate to see a premier team miss out on the tournament due to COVID issues.
The featured matchup on Monday night is a Big 12 showdown between the Oklahoma Sooners and the Texas Tech Red Raiders. With their recent surge, Oklahoma has climbed into the Top 25, coming in this week at #24. Lon Kruger has led his Sooners to some big time wins this season. On Saturday, the Sooners defeated the red-hot 9th-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide in the SEC-Big 12 Challenge. The Sooners were missing their top scorer Austin Reaves, along with sixth-man Alondes Williams due to COVID precautions. It is unknown whether or not these two will suit up on Monday night.
Texas Tech came off of a heart-breaking loss to West Virginia to defeat LSU on Saturday. Chris Beard’s squad is currently sitting at 4-4 in the Big 12. If they want to keep their hopes alive of keeping stride with Baylor, they can’t afford another loss. Sitting in 6th place, a loss would make their slim conference title hopes nearly disappear. Texas Tech knows that this game has huge implications within the Big 12 race.
In other action on Monday, #25 Louisville will host Georgia Tech. Chris Mack’s Louisville Cardinals squad has been up and down this season. They have had to deal with COVID issues, along with inconsistent play. Louisville has lost three of it’s last four, so the Cardinals will be looking for a big win. Georgia Tech is coming off of an upset win over #16 Florida State on Saturday. Josh Pastner’s senior-led group should bring a lot of momentum into this matchup. Georgia Tech has exceeded expectations in the ACC this season, and they’ll try to continue their march up the conference standings.
