Virginia vs Boston College NCAA Hoops Odds Guide

Written by on January 17, 2015

Virginia Cavaliers fans have waited a long time for a start to a season as good as this one. At 16-0, Virginia is off to its best start since the 1980-81 season and they will be looking to further extend that unbeaten string as they enter into what has to be considered a pretty soft stretch in their schedule. It begins on Saturday, when the No. 2 ranked Cavaliers pay a visit to the floundering Boston College Eagles. Judging by the double digit spread, NCAA Basketball Betting fans may think this is going to be a an easy match for Virginia, but while the Eagles have lost 3 of their last 4 games, their losses have been by a close margin, which means that they have a clear chance to upset Virginia’s perfect run.

Why Bet on the Virginia Cavaliers

The next three outings for Virginia are all against teams that are currently sitting winless in the ACC Conference. This will be a nice way for them to end the month on a hot streak, as they will have to face Duke, North Carolina, and Louisville once this “easy” run comes to an end. That’s not to say that they will be looking beyond this set of games, though, and they proved that by routing Clemson 65-42 earlier in the week. Virginia is defensively solid, and are allowing just 50.6 points per game so far this season. Combine that with the fact that they are currently third in the country in rebounding differential, and you are left with a team that is incredibly tough to break down.

Why Bet on the Boston College Eagles

At the opposite end of the scale this season is where Boston College sits, as their 8-7 record is their worst start to the season since joining the ACC for the 2005-06 season. The Eagles were probably happy to get away from conference play, where they have yet to win, in their last game, in which they were able to knock of Harvard 64-57. It is likely to be a very different story today, though, especially since their defense is giving up almost 60 points per game, and is near the bottom of the conference in rebounding differential.

My Expert Betting Analysis and Prediction

It really comes as no surprise to see Virginia listed as a 13-point favorite for this match-up. The Cavaliers are 6-0 ATS on the road this season, although they have historically had a pretty tough time of it when facing Boston College. The Eagles are actually 4-1 SU versus Virginia in their last 4 meetings at home. That said, these two teams are going in very opposite directions this year. There is always the chance that Virginia might be looking ahead to those 3 big games that begin at the end of this month, but I really see no reason for that to happen. I’m taking Virginia to win and cover here.
