Alabama maintains underlay odds heading into College Football Playoffs on January 1

The odds on the Alabama Crimson Tide to win the title took another hit after they beat the Florida Gators 52-46. Alabama’s offense has posted some of the best stats in the history of football.

Quarterback Mac Jones, running back Najee Harris, and wide receiver DeVonta Smith have blasted opponents this season. In the SEC Championship, the triumvirate posted massive yards and points.

The difference could have been much worse had the Tide not called off the dogs in the third quarter. No doubt, Alabama deserves it’s favorite status.

The second choice Clemson Tigers, like Bama, have hit their stride. Clemson exacted revenge over the Notre Dame Irish with a massive beating. Because the Irish made the CFP, we must assume that Clemson beat a legit team to win the ACC Championship.

Based on the odds, Trevor Lawrence and the Tigers figure to meet Jones and the Crimson Tide in the title game on January 11. Notre Dame has almost no shot of beating the Tide while even though Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields is fantastic in almost every way, the Buckeyes don’t have a good enough defense to hang with Clemson.

Clemson versus Alabama has become the rivalry to watch in college football. Since the 2014-2015 season, the Tigers and Tide have met in the championship game three times with Clemson winning two and Bama wining one.

Three SEC Heisman finalists and Trevor Lawrence

  • Mac Jones +160
  • Devonta Smith -220
  • Trevor Lawrence +700
  • Kyle Trask +2800

Because Alabama and Clemson have dominated this season, three of the four Heisman Trophy finalists play either for the Crimson Tide or the Clemson Tigers. Devonta Smith has become the chalk.

Smith caught 98 passes for 1,511 yards and 17 touchdowns. He also scored a TD rushing the football. Quarterback Mac Jones threw for 3,739 yards and 32 touchdowns. He tossed just 4 interceptions while completing 76.5% of his passes.

If he hadn’t missed multiple games due to a coronavirus positive, Trevor Lawrence would be a lock. Lawrence’s stats pale in comparison to Jones’, though.

Kyle Trask probably should win the award, he threw the most TD passes, 43, while throwing 1 more pick. But Trask’s squad, the Florida Gators, lost three games in a shortened season. That won’t help his cause.

Either Devonta or Mac should strike the Heisman pose. Who will it be? We’re going to find out on January 5.

Have a great week!
