NCAAF 2021 Regular Season - Week 5 ATS Betting Picks

NCAAF 2021 Regular Season – Week 5 ATS Betting Picks

One month into the college football season and things don’t really look how we expected. While Alabama sitting at #1 is nothing new, seeing the likes of Ohio State and Clemson outside the top 10 at this stage of the season is a little jarring. It does look as though the top 4 might prove to be different than what we are used to, which is a good thing, in my humble opinion. This weekend, there are some huge games on the schedule, a couple of which are going to have an impact on how the top 10 looks once Week 5 is in the books. We covered some of that with out SU picks for the week, but now let’s jump in and make out college football Week 5 ATS picks so you can get ready to bet against the NCAAF odds.

Iowa Hawkeyes (-4) at Maryland Terrapins

We get the ball rolling with a Friday night game this week, as a pair of unbeaten teams go head-to-head on what should be a very good game of football. While both teams are 4-0, the Iowa Hawkeyes are ranked #5 in the country, while the Terrapins are outside of the top 25. That will change if they can find a way to win on home field on Friday night. The problem for Maryland is that Iowa has already taken down a pair of ranked teams on their way to that #5 spot, and they are beginning to look like a little bit of a dark horse. Even more convincing here is that the Hawkeyes have won 7 in a row against Big Ten opposition and are 6-2 ATS on their last 8 games as a favorite.

Pittsburgh Panthers (-3 ½) at Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

Yes, we are only 4 games in, but the ACC already looks like it might be up for grabs given the struggles of the Clemson Tigers. There is a long way to go, but this is a chance for one of these teams to make a mark with a conference win. The Yellow Jackets are already 1-1 in ACC play, while this will be the first conference game of the season for the Pittsburgh Panthers. While I am all over Pitt here, it should be noted that they are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games played in the month of October. That said, they have covered the spread in 4 of their last 5 games and are 4-2 ATS in their last 6 versus the Yellow Jackets. That’s good enough for me to take a shot.

Oregon Ducks (-8) at Stanford Cardinal

When you have teams like Clemson and Ohio State faltering in the early going, someone needs to step up and take their place. Right now, the Oregon Ducks are very much in the playoff conversation. While it’s good to see a PAC 12 team back in the picture, we are all very aware that a single loss could change everything. This weekend, the 4-0 Ducks hit the road to face a Stanford Cardinal team sitting at 2-2 through the opening 4 weeks of the season. Of some concern is the fact that the Ducks are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games, but on the flipside, they have covered the spread in 6 of their last 9 visits to Stanford. I think they do it again this weekend.
