Wild Card Weekend was unlike anything we had seen before, as we had 6 games played as opposed to the usual 4. The NFL decided to expand the playoffs this season by adding another team into the mix in each of the conferences, which meant that only the #1 seed got the bye in the Wild Card round. Rested and ready to go, those two teams, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Green Bay Packers will be back in business this weekend in the Divisional Round. We have already taken a look at how things might play out in the AFC, so now it’s time to turn out attention to the upcoming games in the NFC. Let’s get right to it so you can place your bets against their NFL odds.
NFL Betting | AFC Divisional Round Matches Prediction
LA Rams at Green Bay Packers (-7) – Saturday
The LA Rams made it into the playoffs as the #6 seed in the NFC after finishing the regular season with a 10-6 record. That meant a trip to Seattle to face the Seahawks as a 3-point underdog. The Rams started that game with a backup QB under center and were forced to bring in Jared Goff after John Wolford got knocked out of the game with an injury. Goff was still not ready to start after breaking his thumb a couple of weeks ago, and while he looked unsteady at times, he helped lead the Rams to a surprising 30-20 win. The Rams, though, are just 1-5 SU in their last 6 meetings with the Packers, failing to cover in each of those meetings.
You always want to go into the postseason on a good run of form, which is exactly what the Green Bay Packers did, winning each of their last 6 regular season games. They are also unbeaten in their last 5 games at Lambeau Field, so everything appears to be pointing in the direction of a Packers win and a trip to the NFC Championship Game. That is exactly what I think happens, with the Packers also covering the spread.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers at New Orleans Saints (-3) – Sunday
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers hit a little bit of a wobbly patch in the middle of the regular season, but they put it all together again coming down the stretch. We saw some vintage Tom Brady displays as the Bucs rallied to win each of their last 4 regular season games. A trip to Washington in the Wild Card was a potential banana peel, but Tampa pulled out the 31-23 win, although they failed to cover as a 10-point favorite in that one. They are now 4-5 ATS on the road this season.
You get the sense that this Saints team is all about rallying around Drew Brees and getting him to the Super Bowl in what will almost certainly be his final season. With retirement looming, Brees will be looking to raise his game and go out in a blaze of glory. The Saints have already beaten Tampa Bay twice this season, including a 38-3 hammering in their last meeting. I don’t expect this one to be quite such a walk in the park for New Orleans, but I do like them to win and cover the spread.
