NFL makes an example of the Denver Broncos
The National Football League made an example of the Denver Broncos. The NFL forced the Broncos to play the New Orleans Saints without a quarterback.
As one might expect, starting a converted wide receiver, Kendall Hinton, under center didn’t work out for the now 4-7 Broncos. Hinton completed 1-of-9 for 13 yards and threw 2 interceptions.
Why did Hinton start? Backup Jeff Driskel tested positive for COVID. On Friday, the league pulled the other two quarterbacks, Drew Lock and Brett Rypien, off the field. No doubt, Bronco Nation had to feel that the NFL was making an example of them.
It doesn’t seem fair that the Broncos had to play without a starting quarterback while the league pushed Pittsburgh versus Baltimore out to Tuesday. Lamar Jackson, the Ravens starting quarterback, also tested positive for the virus.
But Lamar is a superstar on a level that no player at Denver is. The NFL is still an organization whose goal is to make profit. To the league, the Broncos don’t mean as much as Baltimore, that’s for sure.
As far as New Orleans is concerned, the NFL fined them $500,000 and took away a 7th round pick because the Saints celebrated a win over the Buccaneers in the locker room without masks. New Orleans didn’t seem to care on Sunday.
They destroyed the Broncos 31-3 behind a surging defense. The Saints haven’t allowed more than a single TD in their past four games. New Orleans heads into Week 13 on an eight game winning streak as well, making them the hottest team in the league after the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Pittsburgh versus Baltimore set for Tuesday, will Lamar play?
Speaking of Pittsburgh, they get a chance to complete the sweep against the Baltimore Ravens on Tuesday. The NFL will make Baltimore play against their AFC North rivals even though the Ravens show 18 positives.
The NFL isn’t messing around. They gave the Ravens close to a week so that Jackson might get back onto the field. No word yet on whether Lamar will play. Willie Snead, JK Dobbins, Mark Ingram, and tight-end Mark Andrews have also tested positive.
That’s a lot of starters on offense who possibly could sit out Tuesday’s game. Expect the Steelers to take no prisoners. Like most teams in the NFL, Pittsburgh has followed the COVID protocols. It’s not the 10-0 Steelers’ fault if the Ravens haven’t taken the pandemic seriously.
Kansas City solidifies Super Bowl favoritism with road win over Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Chiefs again provided the most impressive win of the week. Kansas City beat Tampa Bay 27-24. Even though KC didn’t cover, they were 4 point favorites, they showed they can march into enemy territory, face a great quarterback, and come out ahead.
The Chiefs are surging while the Bucs have proven they’re pretenders. A few other pretenders? How about the Los Angeles Rams, who lost a home game to San Francisco, and the Arizona Cardinals, who couldn’t beat the New England Patriots. Atlanta destroyed the Las Vegas Raiders 43-6. So, Sin City is a pretender as well.
Green Bay bounced back from an overtime road loss in Indianapolis to demolish the rival Chicago Bears 41-25. The Colts fell to Tennessee. The Titans beat Indianapolis 45-26.
Tennessee is a good football team. They can rush the ball better than any squad in the league, which makes them a serious contender. When you can rush the football, and nobody does it better than Derrick Henry, you can beat teams that are better than you, even teams like the Kansas City Chiefs.
