Coronavirus (COVID-19) NFL Update – June 8th 2020 Edition

Outside of social issues, the NFL didn’t have much to say last week. However, there was one thing that the league declared. Teams can’t practice with other squads once training camps open in July. Now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s take a look at what happened in Super Bowl futures. Big NFL odds changes occurred, which could give some of us ideas on where which teams we should think about backing.

Super Bowl odds dive on Cowboys, Chargers, and Titans

Let’s look at Super Bowl odds changes from a couple of perspectives. The first is big odds changes for favorites. Then, we’ll consider odds changes for underdogs.

The most important odds change for a favorite happened with the Dallas Cowboy. A week ago, the Boys offered +1800. They went from +1800 to +1400 in about 7 days. Does that matter? Yes, it does.

A +400 odds change is significant. When it comes to the Dallas Cowboys, it’s huge. It’s big because nobody grouped the Boys with the Saints, Buccaneers, and 49ers until now. Dallas was an underdog to win the Super Bowl in their own division.

Before the Cowboys fell from +1800 to +1400, the Eagles were favored ahead of the Cowboys. Now, the Eagles are at +2200 to win the Super Bowl.

Like the Cowboys, both chalk teams, Kansas City and Baltimore, saw their odds change direction. Unlike Dallas, the Chiefs odds and Ravens odds have floated up. About a week ago, Kansas City and Baltimore were +500 co-choices to win the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

KC is at +600. Lamar Jackson and friends are at +650.

A couple of underdog teams also saw their odds change. The Los Angeles Chargers went from +5500 to +4000. The Bolts odds change is big. That’s +1500 in a week. Does LAC really have a shot to win the Super Bowl?

In his last season as a starter, Tyrod Taylor threw just 4 interceptions. The Chargers figure to build around their rushing attack and the defense is one of the best in the NFL. That could lead to close games that, maybe, the Bolts win.

The other team with a significant odds change were the Tennessee Titans. The Titans went from +3000 to +2200. That makes Tennessee a Super Bowl contender on par with the Buffalo Bills, Pittsburgh Steelers, Seattle Seahawks, Indianapolis Colts, and Philadelphia Eagles.

The odds on the Titans to win make sense. Tennessee battled Kansas City hard in last season’s AFC Championship. If the Titans improved at all, they could win the conference.

NFL on track

The National Football League is on track to the start of the 2020-2021 NFL Season. Unless something derails the league, we can expect the NFL to have no trouble starting training camps on time in July.

That’s the key. Like hockey, football is a crazy physical sport. Players can’t step onto the field in regular season games unless they’re in football shape.

So far, things are on track. Let’s not second-guess ourselves if we’re already excited about the upcoming season.
