The Raiders hold a 65-55-2 all-time advantage over the Bolts. The Chargers have won 12 of the past 18 home contests against the Raiders, scoring 20-plus points in all but five of those matchups.
Why Bet on Las Vegas?
The Raiders (3-0) come off a 31-28 OT Week 3 win over Miami – already Vegas’ second OT game this season. They are the fourth team to win two overtime games within its first three games of a season, joining the 1995 Atlanta Falcons, 1995 Kansas City Chiefs and 1994 Detroit Lions.
Quarterback Derek Carr passed for 386 yards and two touchdowns with one interception for a 95.7 rating in the win. Carr, who entered Week 4 with an NFL-best 1,203 passing yards, is the fourth player with at least 1,200 passing yards through his team’s first three games of a season in NFL history, joining Tom Brady (1,327 passing yards in 2011), Ryan Fitzpatrick (1,230 in 2018) and Kurt Warner.
Dating to Week 16 of last season, Carr has recorded at least 325 passing yards in five consecutive games, joining Rich Gannon (six games with the Raiders in 2002), Drew Brees (five games with the Saints in 2011) and Warner (five games with the Rams in 2000 and five games with the Cardinals in 2008) as the only players to pass for 325 yards in five straight games in NFL history. Carr was named AFC Offensive Player of the Month for September. He was the Raiders’ first QB to win offensive player of the month since Gannon did so in November 2001.
Carr can enter the record books Monday with at least 375 yards and two touchdown passes against the Chargers – it would mark the first time in league history that a quarterback has ever accomplished that feat in each of the first four games of the year.
Top running back Josh Jacobs has missed the past two due to injury and is questionable Monday. “We’ll run him around the field on gameday and see how he feels,” coach Jon Gruden said. He also labeled Jacobs a game-time decision. Peyton Barber would handle the primary load if Jacobs is out again. He rushed 23 times for 111 yards and one score in the Dolphins win.
Jacobs is the only Raiders player with a game status designation. Safety Roderic Teamer, who has been dealing with an ankle injury since the beginning of the season, was a full participant on Saturday. Cornerback Trayvon Muller (shoulder) also was upgraded to full participation after he was limited in practice during the week.
Why Bet on LA Chargers? The Chargers upset the Chiefs 30-24 in Week 3. Justin Herbert passed for 281 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions for a 125.0 rating, including the game-winning touchdown pass with 32 seconds remaining. Herbert became the fifth player in the Super Bowl era to record five games with at least three touchdown passes and zero interceptions in his first two seasons, joining Lamar Jackson (six games), Dan Marino (six), Patrick Mahomes (five) and Dak Prescott (five).
Keenan Allen caught 8-of-12 targets for 50 yards and a touchdown. Mike Williams caught 7-of-9 targets for 122 yards and two touchdowns. It was just the fifth 100-yard game of his five-year career. The production is more in line with what was projected for Williams when the Chargers used the No. 7 pick on him in the 2017 draft. Austin Ekeler rushed 11 times for 55 yards and caught six balls for 52 yards and a TD.
The L.A. defense will be down a key player in linebacker Kenneth Murray. Murray rolled his left ankle during individual drills on Saturday and was carted off. Drue Tranquill is likely to start in Murray’s place, and rookie Nick Niemann could see additional playing time. Cornerback Chris Harris Jr. is questionable and will be a game-time decision for Los Angeles. Harris has missed two games with shoulder issues.
Fellow cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. was named NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month for September. In his first three career starts, Samuel led all NFL rookies with two interceptions and four passes defensed. He is the only NFL rookie to record multiple interceptions and at least four pass breakups in September in the last six years. With both interceptions coming at age 21, Samuel is the second player drafted after the first round to record multiple picks in September at 21-years-old since 1982. Samuel is the third Chargers rookie to win the award and the first-ever in September, joining Joey Bosa (October and December 2016) and Paul Bradford (November 1997).
The Chargers are operating new offenses and defenses this season, the sweeping changes part of a transition that saw only two assistants retained after Anthony Lynn was fired as head coach in January.
