NFC Championship Odds After Draft

NFC Championship Odds After Draft

Written by on May 5, 2020

While the San Francisco 49ers ended up on the losing end of things is last season’s Super Bowl, you could certainly argue that the NFC was the stronger of the two conferences in the regular season. Realistically, all 6 teams that made it into the playoffs in the NFC had a shot at going all the way, and when you look at what teams have done in the offseason this far, it could prove to be more of the same this coming season. The draft is now done, and most of the big free agent moves have taken place, so we have a good idea of how teams will line up this season. Let’s take a look at the current odds to win the NFC Championship.

NFC Championship Odds After Draft

San Francisco 49ers

  • Odds to Win the NFC Championship: +400

Given that the 49ers made it all the way to the Super Bowl last season, it is more than reasonable to assume that they would be a good bet again this season. There are, though, some signs that all may not be well down by the bay. The San Francisco 49ers made it known that they were in the race to land Tom Brady, which is not great news for Jimmy Garoppolo. How is he going to react to the news that his team was shopping for another QB? The 49ers basically replaced the players they lost in free agency via the draft, so they should be ready to go again this season.

New Orleans Saints

  • Odds to Win the NFC Championship: +500

Even before the draft began, the New Orleans Saints received good news when Drew Brees announced that he would be returning. Retirement was on the table, but with Brees back in the fold, the window to win a Super Bowl remains wide open. This is, from top to bottom, one of the most complete teams in the NFL, and there is no reason to think they won’t be challenging for the NFC again this season. The Saints did not have a lot of picks in the draft, but they used what they had to add some depth.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

  • Odds to Win the NFC Championship: +550

No team made a bigger move up the betting board than the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They moved in among the favorites to win the NFC the moment they went out and landed Tom Brady as their QB for the next couple of seasons. The fact that they also picked up Rob Gronkowski in a trade before the draft is just icing on the cake. The Buccaneers also had a solid draft, adding weapons and protection on the line. This looks like a team going all in to win the Super Bowl.

Green Bay Packers

  • Odds to Win the NFC Championship: +900

The rumors of discontent between Aaron Rodgers and new head coach Matt LaFleur started pretty early last season and they have failed to let up. While the Green Bay Packers remain adamant that Rodgers is their man, the fact that they traded up to get QB Jordan Love in the first round of the draft would seem to suggest otherwise. This is a team that won 13 games last season and went to the NFC Championship Game, so there is reason to believe that they can put the bad stuff aside and win.

Dallas Cowboys

  • Odds to Win the NFC Championship: +1000

It is going to be the start of a new era for the Dallas Cowboys this coming season, with new head coach Mike McCarthy set to take the reins. If the 2020 draft is anything to go by, the Cowboys look ready to take a serious run at the postseason and potentially the Super Bowl. They have plenty of weapons in the roster, but they have underwhelmed the last couple of seasons. Still worth a look, though.
