Are the San Francisco 49ers a good wager at +115 to win the NFC Championship?
San Francisco did what they had to do. They beat the Seattle Seahawks 26-21 in their final regular-season game. That gave the Niners home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. San Francisco ranks second in yards allowed per game at 281.8. They rank first in passing yards allowed at 169.2. Both those are signs the 49ers can win the NFC.
But the odds imply they dominate their competition. That might not happen. The 49ers aren’t playing their best football. They gave up 46 points to the Saints in Week 14. Atlanta beat them 29-22 in Week 15. The Rams had them on the ropes in a 34-31 win in Week 16.
In Week 17, Seattle might have won if not for a delay of game penalty while they sat on the 1-yard line with about 3 seconds left. So, even though San Francisco has home field, they’re a bad play at +115 to win the NFC.
Which team deserves a longer look to win the NFC? The New Orleans Saints at +250? Or, the Green Bay Packers at +325?
Momentum means a ton in the NFL. Teams with it heading into the playoffs often roll to conference championships. Teams that don’t, fail. The Green Bay Packers have some momentum. New Orleans has unreal momentum.
Since Week 14, Green Bay has scored 20, 21, and 23 points twice. The Saints have scored 46, 34, 38, and 42. Back New Orleans before you back the Packers.
What team among the Philadelphia Eagles, Seattle Seahawks, and Minnesota Vikings deserves the most attention to win the NFC?
Seattle looked terrible in their last couple of regular-season games. They had no answer for the 49ers. They lost their week 16 matchup to Arizona. Philadelphia should beat Seattle this Sunday.
The Vikings have played better than Seattle. But they face the Saints this weekend. New Orleans beat Minnesota this season with Teddy Bridgewater under center. Drew Brees has played lights out the last month. Vikings won’t win the NFC.
Can Philadelphia? Sounds nuts, but they can. The Eagles are on a 4-game winning streak. The defensive line remains one of the top units in the league. Plus, the rest of the defense has caught up with the D-line. Also, Carson Wentz’s TD to INT ratio is 6 to 0. Back the Eagles over the Vikings or Seahawks to win the NFC.
