When you watch sports as much as I do, it’s tough to be neutral when Sunday afternoon rolls around. Without getting into too much detail, there is one team that I root for in a big way, as well as a few that I love to see lose whenever the opportunity arises. I do all that I can to ensure that none of that bleeds through into my predictions, as the goal here is to make selections based on trends and data as opposed to just spouting what my head and heart want.
I will be the first to admit that the Patriots are one of the teams I take great pleasure in watching them lose, but I am also clear-headed enough to know that those opportunities don’t come along very often. It did look like the beginning of the end for the Patriots dynasty at the start of the season, but they are once again right up there with the best in the league as we reach the midway point of the season. This weekend, the Patriots will take to the road for what looks to be a straightforward win over the Bills. Brady and company are in as a 13 ½ point favorite, with the point total set at 44.

Why bet on the New England Patriots? We all know enough about the Patriots to be aware that they are essentially going to be the favorite to win every single week. They did get off to a rather wobbly 1-2 start to the season, but once they got healthy and started to integrate all the new parts on the offense, things started to change dramatically. The end result is that they have now reeled off 4 straight wins and have averaged about 39 PPG during that run.
The Patriots were pushed to the limits by the Bears and the Chiefs in the last couple of weeks, but they found ways to dig deep and win those games. New England has won 17 of their last 20 games on the road, although 2 of those losses came this season, and have also covered the spread in 15 of those games.
Why bet on the Buffalo Bills? The Bills have been trying to give rookie QB Josh Allen as much playing time as possible, but an injury and a lack of production will force the Bills to start Derek Anderson this weekend. The QB situation in Buffalo is about as dire as it gets, although, in fairness, none of the 3 guys who have started this season have been given very much protection by their O-line.
The end result is that the Bills are averaging just 11 PPG this season, managing just 18 points in their last 2 games. The Bills have had very little in the way of success against the Patriots at home, going just 2-11-1 ATS against them in their last 14 meetings in Buffalo.
