Tampa Bay Buccaneers Postseason Betting Analysis

There is no easy path to the NFL playoffs, but winning the division means at least getting one home game in the postseason. 2024 MyBookie Sportsbook NFL Odds, American Football NFL Lines | Tampa Bay Buccaneers Postseason Betting Analysis

This is where things get a little tricky, though, as not all divisions in football are created equal. While some teams need to win 11 or even 12 games to secure a division crown, others can get by with 8 or 9 wins. Divisional strength plays a major role in which teams get in and which miss out, but does the team that wins those weaker divisions find themselves at a bit of a disadvantage heading into the playoffs? We will certainly find that out this Wild Card Weekend, as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers head into the playoffs as the #4 seed, courtesy of winning the South with a 9-8 record. It’s certainly not ideal but having a game at home might help the cause. Let’s take a closer look at the Bucs postseason chances.

Regular Season Recap

While we should all know better, many of us still make the mistake of writing a team off after watching a few weeks of the season, forgetting that there is still time to turn the ship around. That is exactly what the Buccaneers did this season after looking dead and buried at one point. Their saving grace is that with the weakness of the NFC South, they were never really that far out of first.

They opened the season strong, winning 3 of their first 4 games, but the wheels came off hard, as they then lost 6 of their next 7. Things looked pretty damn bleak for the Bucs at that point, but they deserve credit for rallying and finishing strong, winning 5 of their last 6 games, with a 4-game winning streak coming in the midst of that run.

They had to win in Week 18 to get in, which they did with a less than impressive 9-0 win over the Panthers.

Stats, Trends, and Odds

It was a bit of a comeback season for QB Baker Mayfield, who threw for over 4,000 yards, tossing 28 TD passes in the process. He needed to be good, as the running game was a total nightmare, with the Bucs averaging just 88 YPG on the ground, which put them last in the league in that category. Their 20 PPG scored had them down in the bottom half, but the D was solid, allowing just 19 PPG, which was good for 7th overall in the regular season.

As always, home field advantage in the playoffs is always a nice thing to have, but you do have to wonder if it means that much to the Buccaneers. Tampa was just 4-4 in their own building this season, with one of those losses coming at the hands of their opponent this weekend, the Philadelphia Eagles. That game ended in a 25-11 loss for the Bucs.

All things considered, the Buccaneers have to be viewed as a longshot to make a deep run, never mind just getting by the Wild Card Round. The bookies seem to agree, as they have them in at odds of +3300 to win the conference. They are in huge longshot territory to win the Super Bowl, currently sitting at odds of +6600. I don’t see a lot of money going their way this postseason.
