Winning every year in the NHL is not an easy task, and it’s not uncommon to see teams that made the playoff one year totally fall off the face of the earth the next. That is what has happened to the Calgary Flames this season, and it’s something that came as a surprise to a lot of hockey fans. The Flames were one of the surprise teams of the year last season, as they are a squad filled with talented, albeit very young, guys. The belief was that they would take another step forward this season, especially with some key additions made in the offseason, but they have failed in rather dramatic fashion. The Flames are now officially eliminated from playoff contention, but are now, oddly enough, playing some of their best hockey of the season. They will have another tough game on Wednesday night when they have to head into Anaheim to face the Ducks. You can wager on this one by visiting the NHL betting page.

Why bet on the Calgary Flames

In fairness to the Flames (32-38-6), it has not really been their young guys that have let the team down this season. While you hate to point the finger of blame at any one group, you have to really see that it has been goaltending where Calgary has had the most issues this season. The Flames aren’t doing well in the NHL standings, and with a handful of games left in the regular season calendar, it’s time to start using some young prospects, specially Kenny Agostino. Top brass in Calgary have already made it clear that changes are coming in the crease, so look for the Flames to make a free agent splash this offseason. The good news for this team is that they have a lot of young guys who can put the puck in the net, and they should be able to bounce back if they can tighten up at the back next season. The Flames are averaging 2.7 GPG, and are giving up 3.1 GPG.

Why bet on the Anaheim Ducks

It did look for a while as though the Ducks (42-23-10) were going to be in a similar situation as the Flames this year. They made an awful start to the season, and while they were good defensively, they could not put the puck in the net. They got their problems sorted out, and are now considered one of the favorites to represent the Western Conference in the Stanly Cup Final. Anaheim have the best defense in the league, and are also top in power play and penalty killing. That is a pretty lethal combination, and one that could take them deep into the postseason. For now, they are just looking to catch the Kings so that they can win the Pacific Division, and perhaps have a more favorable opening round playoff opponent. The Ducks are averaging 2.6 GPG, and are giving up 2.3 GPG.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

Anaheim have won all 4 games against the Flames this season, and I like them to complete the regular season sweep. All but one of those games featured a ton of goals, so perhaps take a look at the OVER in this one.Calgary Flames 3 Anaheim Ducks 5
