Boston Bruins games on hold after 4 players go into COVID-19 protocol

The NHL postponed Bruins games on Saturday, March 20 and this coming Tuesday, March 23 due to four players landing in coronavirus protocols.  Boston had been scheduled to play the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday.

On Tuesday, the Bruins were supposed to take on the New York Islanders. The postponements could be an issue for Boston.

As of March 20, the Bruins have fallen to eight points behind the Washington Capitals and the New York Islanders. Boston has 36 points while the Caps and Islanders each have 44.

The Bruins are 3 points ahead of Philadelphia. Four teams from each division make the playoffs this season, which means if the postseason started tomorrow, Boston would make it.

But there are some games to play, and the Dallas Stars proved that winning after a delay can be tough. The Bruins must now work even harder to maintain their playoff position.

Avalanche boost goalie depth

Colorado acquired goalie Jonas Johansson from the Buffalo Sabres. Johansson allows 3.79 goals per. His save percentage is 88.4% and his record this season is 0-5-1.

The Avs didn’t acquire Johansson to start in the net. They acquired him to give Philipp Grubauer a break. Grubauer, who allows 1.74 goals per, seemed to tire towards the end of last year’s regular season.

Colorado doesn’t want to have an issue in the playoffs. They’re willing to cede the West Division title to the Vegas Golden Knights in order to rest Philipp for the playoffs.

Even with Grubauer resting, Colorado could win the West. Vegas holds a 3-point lead over the Avs heading into the March 21 games. Also, Johansson’s GAA should improve playing behind a solid Colorado defense led by terrific Devon Toews.

Rangers win without coaches as Zibanejad ties a period record

The New York Rangers were without most of their coaches last Wednesday night. No problem.

Mika Zibanejad tied an NHL record with 6 points in a period, including scoring 3 goals, and the Rangers trounced Philadelphia 9-0. The win showed what NYR can accomplish when everything clicks.

The Rangers are 6 points away from the East’s fourth and final playoff spot. New York could fight their way into the postseason. If last Wednesday’s game is any indication, once in the playoffs, the Rangers can upset some teams.

Odds listed here are old. Don’t call expecting +700 on the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Lightning have pulled away from the rest of the teams in the NHL. So their odds will likely land around +500 once MyBookie updates the site.
