Super League 2023 Overview
The Super League is Britain’s premier rugby league competition, with eleven teams from the United Kingdom, and one from France.
Last season Leeds were dominant throughout, topping the table with 33 points and 16 wins. However, after making it through to the Grand Final by beating Wigan 20-8, Leeds were upset by last season’s other dominant side, St Helens. St Helens had beaten Salford in the semifinals, and won the Grand Final 24-12 for their fourth title in a row.
Now, heading into the 2023 season, Leeds will be eager for revenge. After falling ever so slightly short against St Helens, they’ll be determined not to make the same mistake in 2023.
Best Super League Matches This Weekend
The opening weekend of the 2023 Super League should be a fantastic spectacle, with five matches playing out over Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Here are the best ones to watch out for:
Warrington vs. Leeds
When: Thursday 16th February
Where: Halliwell Jones Stadium
Time: 2:00 PM EST
TV: SKY Sports
Warrington narrowly missed out on the playoffs in last season’s Super League, finishing in fifth place with 12 wins and 11 losses. They’ll be hoping to improve on that this year, while Leeds will be eager to make sure they start strong with a win over Warrington.
Leeds won this fixture last season, but only just—the final score was 24-18. With the match being played in Warrington’s backyard this year, can the men in blue manage to start their season with a win over last year’s runner-ups? Do so, and they would get their season off to a fantastic start.
Leeds are +108 underdogs to win here, with Warrington at -149.
Leigh vs. Salford
When: Saturday 18th February
Where: Leigh Sports Village
Time: 2:00 PM EST
TV: SKY Sports
Last Super League, Salford played out a dominant Elimination Playoff, winning against Huddersfield 28-0.
The Red Devils then lost by the finest of margins to the season’s eventual winners in the semifinals, however, going down 19-12 to St Helens. This year, they start their campaign against Leigh, who are playing in the top league after moving up from the Super League Championship last year, where they won the title 44-12 over the Batley Bulldogs. Can Leigh maintain their winning ways against a higher caliber of competition, or will Salford stop them in their tracks?
Salford are ahead here by -156 to Leigh’s +108, so it should be a good game.
