2022 UEFA Champions League Title Match Picks

  • Top Pick: Liverpool FC +125

Wednesday, April 13, Liverpool played a very interesting game to knock out Portuguese Liga power Benfica. Pool had to rally to draw 3-3 with Benfica.

The Reds had a 2 road goals to 0 lead over the underdog. Benfica, though, made it super interesting, scoring early and then pushing Pool.

But Liverpool came through with the 6-4 aggregate win. The Reds take on Villareal in the Champions League Semifinals.

No doubt, Villareal surprised many by knocking out Bayern Munich. But although Bayern was a huge favorite, the 2022 Bayern team isn’t nearly as formidable as the 2021 squad.

Bayern lost some decent players from the 2021 team, which is why they have yet to lock down a tenth straight Bundesliga title. Villareal beat Bayern because Bayern didn’t take the LaLiga squad seriously and because Bayern just isn’t as good this season as they were last season.

Don’t expect Liverpool to fall to Villareal. Pool might be the best team on the planet. The Reds drew 2-2 versus Manchester City at Etihad Stadium on April 10.

Yes, they took a backward step versus Benfica, but the Reds were bound to bounce after playing so well against the Sky Blues. Liverpool should have no trouble making it to the final where they will face Real Madrid or Man City.

The guess here is that the Reds beat either rival in the championship match.

  • Second Pick: Real Madrid +500

Carlo Ancelotti is already paying dividends. Before the end of last season, Real ditched Zinedine Zidane and went with Ancelotti. So far, it’s proven to be a fantastic move.

Ancelotti became the first coach to reach the Champions League Semifinals in four different decades on April 13 when Real got past Chelsea 5-4 on the aggregate.

Madrid has a 12-point lead over Barcelona for first place in LaLiga. Ancelotti could win both the Primera Division title and the Champions League.

Although Real faces a strong team in Man City in the semis, don’t look past RM to knock out the Sky Blues. Then, Real will have a shot to beat Liverpool.

  • Third Pick: Manchester City +150

Man City made the Champions League Finals last season. City fell to Premier League opponent Chelsea. So Pep Guardiola’s squad is motivated to take down Real and then to beat Liverpool or Villareal in the final.

But the Sky Blues showed much weakness in their 0-0 draw versus Atletico. Sure, City didn’t have to win the match after beating Atleti 1-0 in the first leg. Still, they didn’t show their best.

Real is a great team. So the Sky Blues will be in some trouble if they fail to keep their mind on soccer.
