Rusnak, Juarez Return to Salt Lake

Emotions will be high in Utah on Saturday as Real Salt Lake welcome Seattle Sounders to town. Last August, then manager Freddy Juarez left RSL in the lurch as he took off to become an assistant with the Sounders. Pablo Maestroeni took over and directed RSL to a very unlikely playoff berth as the last team in the field.

RSL then upset the Sounders in penalty kicks in the first playoff game before also knocking off Sporting KC. To further add to the emotion this week, the Sounders signed RSL legend Albert Rusnak in the off-season on a free transfer. Rusnak returns to Utah, where he scored more than 40 times between 2017 and 2021.

Neither team won their opener, adding to the desperation this weekend. Seattle was surprised 1-0 at home by Nashville SC while RSL played a 0-0 game at Houston Dynamo. The Sounders have dominated the Western Conference, but haven’t won at RSL since 2012.

For Saturday’s kickoff, MyBookie has the Sounders as a slight road favorite at +150. Real Salt Lake is +175 to get the win and Seattle is a ½ goal favorite. The total goals is listed at 2 ½ with the over at +103 and the under at -142. A draw between these Western Conference rivals is listed at +250.

Charlotte Makes Home Debut

What better way to open your home than against the LA Galaxy. That’s the schedule for Charlotte FC as they hit the pitch at Bank of America Stadium for their second-ever game. Charlotte suffered a 3-0 setback at D.C. United in the opener with Austrian defender Christian Fuchs as captain. The Galaxy meanwhile picked up a  1-0 home win over NYCFC as Chicharito scored in the 90th minute. The Galaxy are star-studded with Douglas Cota, Sega Coulibaly, and Sacha Kljestan alongside Chicharito while Charlotte is still searching for identity

MyBookie has the Galaxy at +121 with Charlotte at +210 and a draw at +240. The Galaxy are a ½ goal favorite with the total goals at 2 ½ (over -119, under -116).

Timbers Head to Tinseltown

An early-season Western Conference showdown features the defending conference champion Portland Timbers against LAFC. Under brand-new manager Steve Cherundolo, LAFC had a dream start to the 2022 season with a 3-0 win over Colorado Rapids and a Carlos Vela hat trick. Portland meanwhile, had a 2-2 home draw against last year’s best regular-season team, New England Revolution.

New LAFC goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau posted a clean sheet while Vela netted three times against last year’s No. 1 seed from Colorado. Kellyn Acosta made his LAFC debut as well and LAFC looked fantastic as they attempt to bounce back from a rough 2021 season. Having Vela healthy with Brian Rodriguez will go a long way in their 2022 success. The Timbers got goals from Yimmi Chara and Dairon Asprilla as they had a bit of a new look. Sebastian Blanco was limited to eight minutes of action while Diego Valeri left the team in the offseason and Andy Polo was released after a domestic violence allegation. Goalkeeper Steve Clark is now in Houston, replaced by Aljaz Ivacic who made five saves against the Revolution.

MyBookie has LAFC as significant favorites at -175. The Timbers are +400 to grab all three points while a draw is +300. The total is 2 ½ with the under at +130 and the over at -180.
