Serena Williams vs. Elina Svitolina

Williams hopes to prevent being the latest favorites casualty at this surprising U.S. Open Tennis Tournament. On the men’s side, both Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic have already headed to the elongated showers. Of the stars, only Rafael Nadal and Daniil Medvedev remain.

On the women’s side, the favorite’s casualties have been worse. Naomi Osaka, Karolina Pliskova, Ashleigh Barty, and Simona Halep, have already taken their tennis rackets home. Serena Williams hopes she’s not the next victim to the favorite’s 2019 U.S. Open curse.

Unfortunately for Williams, she faces an opponent who has a victory against her. Svitolina beat Serena at the 2016 Olympics. Not only that, but Elina hasn’t lost a set yet during the 2019 U.S. Open. Her latest conquest was Johanna Konta, whom she dominated 6-4, 6-4.

Williams handled Qiang Wang 6-1, 6-0, and she’s definitely at the top of her game. However, Svitolina offers the much better odds while Serena has slowed down towards the end of major tournaments this year. Svitolina’s worth backing to knock out the remaining superstar on the women’s side.

US Open Women’s Semifinals Pick: Elina Svitolina

Bianca Vanessa Andreescu vs. Belinda Bencic

Both Bianca Andreescu and Belinda Bencic have played marvelous tennis during the U.S. Open. Andreescu gets the oddsmaker’s vote in this semifinal matchup mainly because she’s 38-4 in singles matches this year.

Bianca showed great resilience in the quarterfinals when beating Elise Mertens in two straight sets after dropping the first set 3-6. Although that was impressive, it’s also one of the reason Belinda Bencic gets the nod in this.

Bencic has been on fire since knocking off Naomi Osaka. She beat the 1-seed 7-5, 6-4. Belinda had every right to take a backward step versus tough Donna Vekic in the quarters, but instead of doing so, she simply took care of business with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 victory. There’s no reason to believe Bencic doesn’t keep it going here. Andreescu showed some weakness in losing that first set to Mertens. Bencic will jump on her from the opening serve.
