Players To Watch

  • Novak Djokovic

The world no.1, Novak Djokovic, has found himself in the same quarter of the draw as the future number one, Carlos Alcaraz, who enters Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters off the back of his recent success in Miami.

This means that only one of the two top dogs of the tournament can reach the semis, and it’s more than fair to say that one of the two will.

Djokovic is the bookie’s favorite to win, which is fair, but you could argue that his price is a bit too short, considering the circumstances.

We all know that Djokovic is an elite-level talent, as well as the reigning French Open champion who has won the event twice in the past. Moreover, with Nadal injured, Djokovic will likely fancy his chances to do it again, but that’s all but guaranteed.

Only Djokovic knows what sort of form he is in right now, considering he has played only three matches so far in the 2022 season. Moreover, all of his three matches happened in Dubai way back in February, and his most recent one was a shock defeat against world no.124, Jiri Vesely.

There are way too many “with ifs” to bet on Djokovic at the moment, even though he is technically the best player in the field.

  • Casper Ruud

Djokovic is not a very good bet at the offered ATP betting odds, but Casper Ruud is. The Norwegian tennis star is known as one of the best clay performers in the world, as evident by the fact that he’s reached SF in the last three clay Masters tournaments. That includes the Monte Carlo Masters last year.

If we look back at 2021, Ruud was third on tour for service games won (86%) on clay, and he was the best seconds serve points winner in the field. Admittedly, his return game isn’t nearly as solid, but only Nadal won more second-serve return points than Ruud.

In 2022, Ruud has already won a clay title in Buenos Aires, where he dropped just one set, while he has also shown incredible form on hard courts, namely in Miami Open, where he made the finals.

Ruud is by no means a perfect player, and he has his weaknesses, but we have to touch on the fact that he has a fairly decent draw and is a solid longshot bet.

  • Diego Schwartzman

Diego Schwartzman Is the man you want to bet on if you’re looking for an outsider pick. He is one of the best clay-court players on tour, as evident by his past showings in the French Open – two QFs and one SF across his last four visits.

Moreover, he beat Nadal in Rome in 2020. That match is important, knowing that it was played in cold conditions, which clearly suited the Argentine player. And this week’s forecast shows that Monte Carlo won’t be as hot as it usually is, which could potentially help Schwartzman.

Schwartzman has already made QF here before, and seeing how he has been placed in a fairly easy draw, he could be set for a deep run in Monte Carlo that could see him hoist the trophy.
