Nadal a solid favorite while Thiem and Djokovic offer value

Rafael owns the French Open. The chalk has won the French Open twelve times. Rafa has taken the clay court championship at Roland-Garros three years running. No wonder he’s at +100. But, that’s the thing, at +100 Rafael may be an overlay.

But just because Nadal offers great odds, it doesn’t mean we should back him. He didn’t play at the U.S. Open a few weeks ago. He played at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia, losing to Diego Schwarrtzman in the quarterfinals. Nadal may not be in tennis competition shape. If he isn’t, it makes sense to side with either Dominic Thiem or Novak Djokovic.

Djokovic appeared on his way to a U.S. Open victory before hitting a judge with a tennis ball from a shot in anger. Djokovic bounced back with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Diego Schwartzman at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia over the weekend. He’s in great form.

Thiem is in great form as well. Dominic came back from two sets down to beat Alexander Zverev and win the U.S. Open in five sets. Nadal has beaten Dominic in the last two French Open Finals. If you can get +300 on Thiem, he may be the play.

Simona Halep maintains favoritism

The women’s side is much deeper than the men’s side, which is why nobody should back Halep at favorite’s odds. Simona could win the French Open, no doubt. She won it in 2018. But, like Rafa, she didn’t play at the U.S. Open.

She did win the Internazionali BNL d’Italia over the weekend, though. If you want to back chalk, Simona will bring a hot racket to the French Open this weekend. She’s worth backing if you don’t mind underlay odds.

Garbine Muguruza could be a better choice than Halep. She offers kinder odds and may be coming up to her best form. Simona beat Garbine in the Internazionali BNL d’Italia semifinals. Muguruza forced a third set, which means she can hang with Simona.

Ashleigh Barty won the 2019 French Open. Her odds are decent enough to consider a wager. One player you may want to stay away from is Serena Williams. Serena may not have the stamina to challenge for the trophy. She looked tired at the U.S. Open.

Top players start French Open quest on Saturday, Sep. 26

Qualifying rounds for the French Open happen this week before the actual tournament starts on Saturday, Sep. 26. Once it does start, we should know right away if Rafael Nadal can win the championship.

If he can’t, consider backing Dominic Thiem or Novak Djokovic. On the women’s side, Simona Halep played great at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia. But the women’s side is deep, which means you should only back Simona if you don’t mind accepting low odds.
