Top Boxing Betting Picks of the Week – August 20th

Written by on August 20, 2018

September looks as though it is going to be a particularly busy month in the world of boxing, with a number of big fights already on the cards. The good news for Boxing Betting enthusiasts is that you don’t need to wait until next month to wager on some great fight nights. We have a handful of major bouts on the calendar this week, a few of which you will be able to catch on TV, while the others can almost certainly be found online with a little bit of digging. All told, we have 4 fights to look at this week, so let’s get right to the action.

Top Boxing Betting Picks of the Week – August 20th

Jamal James vs Mahonri Montes

This welterweight battle is set to go on Friday night in Minneapolis and can be seen on Fox Sports 1 starting at 8 PM EST. James is going to come into this one feeling as though he has something to prove despite winning his last 3 fights to take his career mark to 23-1. It was his last bout against Abel Ramos, which ended with a split decision win, that has created some doubt, as that was one he was expected to win comfortably. In Mahonri Montes, James is facing a seasoned fighter with a 35-7-1 career record and a penchant for the KP punch. James will be fighting in his own backyard and should get the win here.

Ronnie Clark vs David Oliver Joyce

We are off to Glasgow, Scotland on Saturday for an IBF European Super Featherweight Title bout featuring a pair of very talented fighters. Clark is the home fighter here, as he hails from Dundee, Scotland, so expect a partisan crowd. Clark has a career mark of 21-4-2 with 10 KO wins. He will face a tough Irishman who is unbeaten in his 7 pro fights, 6 of which he won by KO. This is a tough fight for Clark against a former Olympian, but one that you would certainly expect him to win.

Jose Santos Gonzalez vs Ruben Villa

This 12-round featherweight fight is set to go on Saturday night in California, and it features an up and coming fighter taking to the ring on his home turf. Ruben Villa is the Boxing Betting favorite to beat Jose Santos Gonzalez. Villa has started his pro career with 12 straight wins, 5 of which have come via KO, and he will be trying to continue moving up the ranks with a tricky fight against a veteran Gonzalez who is 22-5 with 12 KO. Not the easiest fight for Villa, but still one that you would expect him to win.

Raymundo Beltran vs Jose Pedraza

It’s a big one in Arizona on Saturday night, as we have a WBO Lightweight Title bout set to go, and you can catch all the action on ESPN. This is a huge fight, as the expectation here is that the winner will face Vasyl Lomachencko in a unification bout. This will be the first title defense for Beltran who has a career mark of 35-7-1. Pedraza is a worthy contender here, coming in with just a single loss in his 25 career fights. This is one that looks set to go the distance, but I like the champ to get the decision.
