While I’m generally not one to toot my own horn, I just have to this time. If you didn’t know before, now you do. It was less than a month ago when I predicted in the MyBookie.ag news section that, not only would Floyd Mayweather beat Conor McGregor, but that he would do so via a 10th round KO. Now that you know about my last fight boxing betting prediction, I guess I can move on to my pick on the upcoming Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin middleweight championship fight.

The pair square off live from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas this coming Saturday, September 16 with Golovkin putting his WBA, WBC and IBF middleweight titles on the line. As of now, Golovkin is favorite over Canelo, but let’s see if he’s really the right betting pick for Saturday.

The 27-year-old Alvarez is 5-feet-9-inches and has an orthodox stance to go along with his 70.5-inch reach and has won seven straight fights since suffering his only career loss against Floyd Mayweather Jr. in September of 2014 via a majority decision.

While the aptly named “Triple G” is defending his World Boxing Association, World Boxing Council and International Boxing Federation middleweight belts against Alvarez, the most amazing thing about Golovkin, who is a native of Kazakhstan is that he’s won a phenomenal 33 of his career fights via KO or TKO.

The reigning champ is a slight favorite at -155 and he’s closing in on the all-time record for successful title defenses with a mind-boggling 18. The all-time record is 20 successful defenses by legendary boxer Bernard Hopkins, who made 20 consecutive successful title defenses.

The 5-foot-10-inch Golovkin has a 70-inch reach and an orthodox stance and beat Daniel Jacobs via unanimous decision on March 18 at the O2 Arena in London in his last bout to remain unbeaten.

Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin Expert Prediction

I’m going to get right to the point with my expert pick on this bout by saying that there isn’t a better boxer on the face of the planet today than Gennady Golovkin. Having said that, I certainly don’t expect him to just pound Canelo Alvarez into boxing oblivion the way he has many of the fighters he’s beaten to a pulp in his career.

However, I do expect ‘Triple G’ to win and win by way of a thrilling knockout against Alvarez, who I believe will present his share of openings as he tried to deliver his own knockout blow to the reigning champ.

Golovkin is one of the few boxers on the planet today with more ring experience and a higher boxing IQ than Canelo Alvarez and it is that edge that I believe will carry him to victory over his younger opponent in this bout.

A lot of people think Triple G is on a downward spiral, but I think he’s just been waiting for a real quality opponent like Canelo Alvarez. I suspect this bout will turn into a real street brawl at some point and I’m banking on the naturally bigger and stronger Golovkin to get the win via an eighth round KO. Remember you heard there first. Triple G wins via an eighth round KO!
