The Canadian Football League is ready to enter the fray of what has become a busy scene in the late spring and early summer for football. The Canadian Football League has a much longer history than the XFL or USFL and provides a totally different ruleset. BC Lions at Calgary Stampeders

When: Thursday, June 8 at 9:00 pm ET
Where: McMahon Stadium | Calgary, Canada
The Lions and Stampeders will have a rematch from their first-round playoff match from last season. BC beat Calgary 30-16 in the first round. The Lions won three of their four meetings, including the playoffs against Calgary last season.
The Lions will be without quarterback Nathan Rourke, who moved on to an opportunity with the NFL. BC, however, has a strong option at quarterback with Vernon Adams under center. Calgary will have a new quarterback this season with Jake Maier. Ka’Deem Carey will also be in position to be one of the league’s top rushers for the Stampeders. The Lions will cover the spread and may win on the road to start the season.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Winnipeg Blue Bombers

The Blue Bombers suffered the most heart-wrenching end to last season, falling in the Grey Cup final to Toronto by one point. Winnipeg will return the two-time defending Most Outstanding Player in quarterback Zach Collaros. The Blue Bombers also added wide receiver Kenny Lawrence to help add more punch on offense.
Hamilton signed long-time Calgary quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell to take over under center. The Tiger-Cats are looking for a resurgence this season. Hamilton will take awhile to find its legs and Winnipeg will cover the season-opener by a touchdown.

Ottawa Redblacks at Montreal Alouettes

The Redblacks finished in last place in the division last season. Ottawa hired a new coach in Bob Dyce and will look to rely on quarterback Jeremiah Masoli to carry the offense. The Redblacks did have a solid pass rush last season, led by the CFL’s 2022 sack leader in Lorenzo Mauldin.
The Alouettes will also have a new head coach in Jason Maas. Montreal lost in the Eastern Final last season. The Alouettes were 11-7 last year and where a solid all-around team. They will be Ottawa in a battle between first-year coaches.

Saskatchewan Roughriders at Edmonton Elks

The Elks had a rough season last year, losing all nine of their home games. While Edmonton was 4-5 on the road, the Elks still haven’t quite upgraded their roster where they will be able to compete with the other top teams in the league. The Roughriders started last season 6-5 before they were ultimately doomed by a seven-game losing streak.
Saskatchewan will get a boost off playing the worst team in the league last season and grab a road victory to start the season.
