CFL Week 9 Odds & Betting Preview

Written by on August 6, 2018

In Week 8, Johnny “Football” Manziel had an inauspicious debut for the Montreal Alouettes. It’s doubtful Manziel gets the start in Montreal’s game versus Ottawa. Does that mean Montreal has a shot against the spread versus the RedBlacks? Check out a CFL Week 9 odds preview and pick of that game as well as Edmonton at BC and Hamilton at Winnipeg.

CFL Week 9 Odds & Betting Preview

Thursday, Aug. 9

Edmonton Eskimos -3.5 at British Colombia Lions +3.5

Edmonton heads to BC as a somewhat healthy -3.5 favorite. By using the word healthy, we mean that the Eskimos should cover the spread. That doesn’t mean that they will. Edmonton has gone 1 and 2 ATS in 3 road games this season. But, the Eskimos ride a 2-game against the spread winning streak into this. They beat Montreal 44 to 23 on July 26 as a -10 favorite. They beat Saskatchewan 26 to 19 on August 2 as a -6.5 favorite. Edmonton dominated British Colombia 44 to 22 earlier this season. They should manage the same type of victory on August 9. CFL Week 9 Odds Pick: Edmonton Eskimos

Friday, Aug. 10

Are the Tiger Cats a safe bet in CFL Week 9?

Hamilton Tiger-Cats +4 at Winnipeg Blue Bombers -4

After 3 straight losses both straight up and against the spread, Hamilton dominated Montreal 50 to 11 in their last. Now, Hamilton faces Winnipeg, a team they beat 31 to 17 on June 29. Winnipeg is 3 and 0 against the spread at home, though. Could the Tiger-Cats bounce off their excellent win against Montreal in Week 8? Sure, they could. More than likely, though, Hamilton’s defense controls Winnipeg’s offense from the outset. Hamilton should beat Winnipeg straight up again on Friday. CFL Week 9 Odds Pick: Hamilton Tiger-Cats

Saturday, Aug. 11

Montreal Alouettes +13.5 at Ottawa RedBlacks -13.5

That was a horrific debut for Manziel. He completed 11 of 20 for 104 yards. His average pass per completion was 5.2 yards per. That’s not even the worst of it. Manziel threw 4 interceptions. The Alouettes, the worst team in the Canadian Football League, had to bench Johnny Football for Vernon Adams Jr. Will Adams Jr. get the start on Friday? Maybe. He didn’t throw any picks. But, Montreal has high hopes for Manziel. They might give him another try. Either way, it won’t matter. As long as true Montreal quarterback starter Jeff Matthews remains out, the Alouettes won’t cover a spread against any team in CFL. Matthews won’t return until late August. CFL Week 9 Odds Pick: Ottawa RedBlacks
