The 2019-2020 College Football Season starts in August. Which players have the best shot at striking the Heisman Trophy pose? Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and Clemson signal-caller Trevor Lawrence lead the charge at +250. Will the award go to Tua or Trevor? Are the odds on the chalk justified? Check out the 2019 Heisman Trophy odds and analysis!

2019 Heisman Trophy Odds, Predictions & Picks

  • Tua Tagovailoa (Alabama) +250
  • Trevor Lawrence (Clemson) +250
  • Jalen Hurts (Oklahoma) +500
  • Justin Fields (Ohio State) +600
  • Adrian Martinez (Nebraska) +800
  • Jonathan Taylor (Wisconsin) +800
  • Tee Higgins (Clemson) +1000
  • Jake Fromm (Georgia ) +1200
  • Justin Herbert (Oregon) +1500
  • Dandre Swift (Georgia) +2000

Are the +250 odds on Tagovailoa and Lawrence justified?

At 6’5” and 205 lbs, Trevor Lawrence is a prototypical Division 1 and NFL drop back passing quarterback. He’s got the size, for sure. He’s also got a great feel for the game as evidenced by the 4 interceptions his freshman season.

Lawrence has another major advantage over his Heisman competition. Both Justyn Ross and Tee Higgins are back at the wide receiver position. So much is expected of Higgins that he shows up on this list at +1000 odds. Icing on Trevor’s cake? The ACC doesn’t project to be nearly as deep this season as it has in the past. +250 might be a gift on Trevor Lawrence to win the Heisman.

The +250 odds on Tua Tagovailoa makes sense as well. While Lawrence has Ross and Higgins, Tua has a bevy of wide receivers to throw the football too: Jerry Jeudy, Henry Ruggs III, Jaylen Waddle, and DeVonta Smith can all win one-on-one matchups. Jeudy should stretch the field every Saturday. Not only that, but the offensive line should be solid because Nick Saban has recruited 5-star players.

The odds on both Lawrence and Tagovailoa are justified. Right now, a slight edge goes to Lawrence because Clemson mustn’t traverse a minefield SEC schedule.

What are Hurts’s, Fields’s, and Martinez’s true chances of winning the Heisman?

Adrian Martinez should post massive numbers as Nebraska’s quarterback. Scott Frost is a great coach and this season the Huskers should take a big, forward step. Martinez has all the tools to be a top player, but it’s hard to see him doing enough to win the Heisman.

Same goes for Justin Fields. The Georgia transfer can help Ohio State transition from being Urban Meyer’s team to being Ryan Day’s squad.. Fields can help prove to OSU’s alma mater that excellence remains in Columbus. However, just like Martinez, it’s hard to see Fields impressing enough to strike the pose.

That’s not the case for Jalen Hurts. The former Alabama starter will put an Oklahoma Sooner uniform on this fall. Lincoln Riley has coached the last two Heisman Trophy winners, Baker Mayfield a couple of seasons ago, and Kyler Murray last year. No doubt, Hurts will excel in Riley’s system. He’s a serious contender to beat both Tua and Trevor for the Heisman Trophy.

Of the none quarterbacks, which player among Taylor, Higgins, and Swift, can strike the Heisman pose?

Higgins’s best plays will be at the end of Trevor Lawrence passes. Although he’s a contender, it’s hard to see Heisman voters casting for Higgins instead of Lawrence.

Jonathan Taylor plays for the Wisconsin Badgers. He could post excellent number this season, but he’s not a flashy running back. Not only that, the Badgers aren’t a flashy team. D’Andre Swift, on the other hand, is a flashy running back.

Georgia coach Kirby Smart has said he’s going to use Swift as much as he can in both the passing and rushing attacks. Swift might pull a Reggie Bush where he’s all over the field, doing everything he can to lead his team to a win. If he does, Swift could break the quarterback stranglehold on the Heisman.

Is Justin Herbert a good choice to win the Heisman Trophy this season?

Tough question. But, Herbert’s in a unique position. Oregon starts their season against Auburn. The Ducks are a slight underdog. If Herbert dominates what many consider a strong Auburn defense in Week 1, his name immediately goes into the Heisman hat.

If you like Herbert’s chances of making Auburn look silly, by all means, back him at the odds. NFL scouts are drooling over his pro-level skills. The number one in the draft drumbeat will only get louder if he dominates Auburn’s highly respected defense. So, back him now before the odds drop.
