2019 College Football Week 9 ATS Betting Picks

Written by on October 22, 2019

The surprises continued in Week 8 of the college football season, with the Wisconsin badgers being the latest top 10 team to fall. While the Alabama Crimson Tide won again, albeit in a scrappy affair against Tennessee, they lost QB Tua Tagovailoa to an ankle injury. There is, as of yet, no timetable for his return, which means that Alabama may be forced to roll with a back-up for a few weeks, with the toughest games in their schedule still to come.

We are not looking that far ahead just yet, though, as our focus here is on the Week 9 schedule. With that in mind, let’s see which ATS NCAAF Betting picks jump off the board this coming weekend.

2019 College Football Week 9 ATS Betting Picks

Connecticut Huskies (-10 ½) at Massachusetts Minutemen

This is a game that you might ordinarily skip past when looking for potential plays this weekend. After all, both teams are 1-6 SU and down in the cellar, but there would appear to be a very decent bet available here. The Huskies have won 2 of their 3 meetings with the Minutemen and have outscored their opponent by an average of 15 points over those 3 matchups.

Massachusetts has covered just once in 7 games this season and are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 October games. I’m on UConn to cover here.

College Football Week 9 Betting Trends

  • Huskies are 6-13 ATS in their last 19 games
  • Huskies are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games against an opponent in the Independent conference
  • Minutemen are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games
  • Minutemen are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games played in October

Penn State Nittany Lions (-6 ½) at Michigan State Spartans in College Football Week 9

The Nittany Lions maintained their perfect start to the season with a win over the Michigan Wolverines last weekend. Their assault on the Big Ten Conference, as well as on the top 4, will continue this week against another Michigan team. This time it is the Spartans, who are sitting at 4-3 on the season.

While Michigan State has a winning record, that has not extended to their play against the spread, where they are 2-5 ATS this season. Penn State has nor been great against the spread versus the Spartans in recent years, going 1-5 ATS SU, but they appear to be way too good for State to handle this season.

College Football Week 9 Betting Trends

  • Nittany Lions are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games against Michigan State
  • Nittany Lions are 8-4 ATS in their last 12 games played in October
  • Spartans are 2-9 ATS in their last 11 games
  • Spartans are 2-10 ATS in their last 12 games at home

South Carolina Gamecocks (-4) at Tennessee Volunteers

There is a very fine line between winning and losing in college football, which could clearly be seen with these two teams last week. The Gamecocks, coming off a big win over Georgia, gave the Florida Gators all they could handle before finally going down in a loss.

The Volunteers are favorites for College Football Week 9.

Similarly, Tennessee arguably played their best game of the season against Alabama, but they too came up short. The Gamecocks have been a fantastic bet on the road, going 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games away from home. Tennessee is just 3-6 ATS in their last 9 games overall, so I think we are looking at the Gamecocks covering here.

College Football Week 9 Betting Trends

  • Gamecocks are 4-2 ATS in their last 6 games
  • Gamecocks are 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games on the road
  • Volunteers are 3-6 ATS in their last 9 games
  • Volunteers are 5-14 ATS in their last 19 games at home

Memphis Tigers (-10 ½) at Tulsa Golden Hurricane in College Football Week 9

This looks to me to be a bit of a lopsided matchup, which is why I am a little surprised that the Tigers are only favored by 10 ½ right now. Memphis has been very good this season, going 6-1 SU through the opening 8 weeks. Not only that, they have been putting up some decent numbers, averaging just shy of 38 PPG.

It is their ability to score points that has allowed them to cover the spread in 4 of their last 5 games. Where they have been a very good bet, though, is against teams from the AAC, going 8-2 ATS in their last 10 in that category.

College Football Week 9 Betting Trends

  • Tigers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games
  • Tigers are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games played in October
  • Golden Hurricane are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games played in week 9
  • Golden Hurricane are 7-13 ATS in their last 20 games played on a Saturday
