Alabama is Top Favorite in College Football Week 7 Lines vs. Arkansas

Written by on October 10, 2017

How good is top-ranked Alabama? It’s almost considered a win last week by Texas A&M because the Aggies only lost eight to the Tide. No wonder the Crimson. However, they are huge betting favorites in the College Football Week 7 lines. They take on SEC West rivals, the Arkansas Razorbacks, who sit as a +30 underdog in the NCAAF odds.

Why Bet On Arkansas?

The Hogs (2-3) were clobbered 48-22 at South Carolina last week. Three defensive touchdowns by South Carolina proved to be too much to overcome as Arkansas dropped its first road game of the season. After a 75-yard touchdown drive by the Razorbacks tied it at 10 early in the second quarter, Arkansas gained just 48 yards in their next 18 plays. Those plays included an Allen interception that Skai Moore returned 34 yards for a TD and an Allen fumble that T.J. Brunson returned 74 yards for a score. By the time the Razorbacks started moving the ball again, the Gamecocks led 41-10 in the fourth quarter. Junior Jonathan Nance hauled in a 34-yard pass from Cole Kelley late in the fourth quarter for Arkansas’ final score. Nance has five receiving touchdowns in the last four games as he finished the day as the Razorbacks leading receiver with 116 yards on eight receptions. Kelley went 8-of-13 for 140 yards, with all of his snaps coming in the fourth quarter. Bret Bielema is now 10-24 against SEC teams in his five years at Arkansas. There’s no question that Arkansas’ offense is at its best when it’s balanced which wasn’t the case on Saturday at South Carolina. Arkansas had 106 yards rushing on 32 carries. In the two games prior to South Carolina, it appeared the Hogs had found the near-perfect balance between run and pass. In a 50-43 overtime loss to Texas A&M, the Hogs had 226 yards rushing and 231 passing. They followed that up with 230 yards rushing and another 264 passing in a 42-24 victory over New Mexico State. Arkansas could be without its starting QB in Allen. He missed the fourth quarter vs. South Carolina with an undisclosed injury. Arkansas coach Bret Bielema said after the game that he wasn’t sure of the specifics of Allen’s injury but acknowledged that he saw the team’s athletic trainers working on Allen’s throwing shoulder during the game.

Why Bet On Alabama?

The Tide (6-0) beat Texas A&M 27-19, their first single-digit victory of the season. The Crimson Tide outgained the Aggies 232-71 on the ground in the win. On the defensive side of the ball, the Alabama forced three A&M turnovers. Junior running back Damien Harris led Alabama’s rushing attack with a game-high 124 yards, including a career-long 75-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Harris eclipsed the 100-yard rushing mark for the second time this season and fifth time in his career. Hurts finished the game with 56 yards on 14 carries and a score on the ground, while going 13-of-22 for 123 yards and a score through the air. Alabama had run 638 plays, dating back to the second quarter of the Auburn game on Nov. 24, 2016, without committing a turnover. The first Crimson Tide miscue in 37 quarters came in the third quarter of the A&M game. Is Alabama a safe bet in the College Football Week 7 lines? The matchup against Texas A&M was Nick Saban’s 56th career game coaching Alabama as the Associated Press No. 1 team, the most games coached as No. 1 at one school. At 50-6 (.893), Saban has won more games coaching as the No. 1 team at one school than any other coach in college football history. Woody Hayes (Ohio State) and Bobby Bowden (Florida State) are tied for second with 40 wins apiece. Bowden was 40-5 at Florida State as No. 1 and Hayes went 40-6 with Ohio State. Alabama has defeated 70 consecutive unranked teams under Saban. The last loss to an unranked team came against Auburn to close out the 2007 season. Under Saban, Alabama holds a 74-3 (.961) (70-3, .959 after vacations) mark against unranked opponents, including a perfect mark in unranked matchups since 2008.
