The NCAA College Football Season Week 1 starts on Saturday, August 27 and ends on Monday, September 5. Most of the top teams are in action in the first week. Only some of the best teams play an opponent that will give them a game. Notre Dame Fighting Irish at Ohio State Buckeyes
Most expect Buckeye quarterback C.J. Stroud to lead this season’s top offense. Stroud is a Heisman Trophy contender for sure.
In week 1, Stroud and Ohio State’s offense faces what should be one of the best defenses in college football. New Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman developed the Fighting Irish’s defense. ND versus OSU should be epic.
Cincinnati Bearcats at Arkansas Razorbacks
Arkansas quarterback K.J. Jefferson returns and so do enough players along his offensive line for the Razorbacks to have a terrific rushing attack.
The Cincinnati Bearcats lost good players from last season’s CFP team. But coach Luke Fickell reloaded well. So Cincy will bring it in this.
Utah Utes at Florida Gators
Many expect Utah to finish in second-place in the Pac-12 behind the USC Trojans. The Utes believe that even though they lost players like linebacker Devin Lloyd, they’re a top 10 team.
Florida’s new head coach, Billy Napier, has recruited well and convinced talented players to transfer to The Swamp. The winner of Florida versus Utah could have an excellent season.
Florida State Seminoles vs LSU Tigers
Brian Kelly and the Tigers from Baton Rouge have garnered plenty of action in Vegas to win the SEC and make it to the College Football Playoff. On paper, LSU doesn’t have the talent to do either.
Florida State should take the next step this season. The Seminoles played their way back to respectability last season. This season, the Seminoles have their eyes on an ACC Championship bid.
Oregon Ducks vs Georgia Bulldogs
It will be interesting to see how well UGA plays after losing 8 starters on their defense from last season’s National Championship squad. It will also be interesting to see if Dan Lanning, Georgia’s defensive coordinator from last season and Oregon’s HC, creates a strategy to temper the Dawgs’ offense.
Penn State Nittany Lions at Purdue Boilermakers
Both Big Ten teams believe they’re being disrespected heading into the season. Nobody has said much of anything about Purdue.
College football analysts believe Penn State is competitive but doesn’t touch Wisconsin, Michigan, or Ohio State. The Nittany Lions and Boilermakers will play with something to prove.
West Virginia Mountaineers at Pittsburgh Panthers
West Virginia shouldn’t be a good team. But in this game, the Mountaineers may have a chance. Pitt quarterback Kenny Pickett is now a Pittsburgh Steeler.
Biletnikoff award winner Jordan Addison transferred to USC. Pittsburgh may fall off big time this season without those two. This game should let us know if it’s likely to happen.
Colorado State Rams at Michigan Wolverines
Coach Jim Harbaugh had better switch gears from thinking about politics and start preparing the Michigan Wolverines to take on the Rams in NCAAF Week 1.
The Rams are no joke. Colorado State returns 6 seniors and 2 juniors on offense. On defense, the Rams return 7 seniors and a junior.
Arizona Wildcats at San Diego State Aztecs
Arizona won a single game last season. So no wonder San Diego State is a huge favorite. The Aztecs are a solid club and should win this game, no doubt.
But coach Jedd Fisch brought in the greatest recruiting class in Arizona Wildcats history. Zona should be competitive in this game.
Boise State Broncos at Oregon State Beavers
Boise boasts 9 seniors and 2 juniors on offense. Oregon State starts 5 seniors and 5 juniors on defense. Something must give in this game.
If the Broncos easily handle the Beavers, we should put Boise State on the short list of non-Power 5 Conference teams that can grab a New Year’s Day Bowl bid.
