Notre Dame vs Northwestern NCAA Football Week 10 Spread & Pick

Written by on October 31, 2018

Since the playoff system was introduced to college football a few years ago, the top 4 spots have always been reserved for teams from the Power 5 conferences. There is a feeling that all of that might be about to change this season, but the playoff committee has served a bit of a warning with the release of their first rankings. The AP Rankings had the unbeaten UCF Knights in the top 10, but they have been reduced to #12 in the official rankings. Likewise, independent Notre Dame was listed as #3 in the AP rankings, but the committee has them at #4.

The Irish are now well aware that any sort of slip-up between now and the end of the regular season will likely mean that they will be forced to make way for a Power 5 team. The committee loves the SEC, so that is the conference we will all be watching in the final few weeks. Notre Dame will be on the road to face the Northwestern Wildcats this weekend as a 9 ½ point favorite. The point total for this one has been set at 53 ½.

Why bet on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish?

The Irish are an unbeaten 8-0 right now, but we all know that the committee likes to see teams win with some flair. The biggest problem for Notre Dame, as I see it, is that they had some rather lackluster wins at the start of the year, most notably against Ball State and Vanderbilt.

This is a team that could use a couple of big wins in the final few weeks in order to truly state their case, as there is always the chance that they could be overtaken by a 1-loss team from the Power 5 that goes on to win a conference championship game. The Irish are 4-4 ATS this season and have now failed to cover in each of their last 2 games. They are a very good 6-2 SU in their last 8 games away from home, with 4 of their last 5 road tilts going OVER the point total.

Why bet on the Northwestern Wildcats?

This Northwestern team is absolutely not one that you should be sleeping on this weekend. They were essentially written off a few weeks back after losing 3 in a row, but they have rebounded very nicely and are coming into this game on a 4-game win streak. Those wins have not come against poor teams either, with victories over Michigan State and Wisconsin included in that streak.

Notre Dame vs Northwestern is one of the best games scheduled for NCAA Football Week 10.

The Wildcats have had little success running the football this season, averaging just 91 YPG on the ground, so look for them to be going for big chunk plays with the passing game. Strangely enough, the Wildcats are just 2-3 SU while going 3-0 on the road this year. 16 of their last 22 home games have gone UNDER.

Expert Pick & Final Score Prediction for Notre Dame vs Northwestern

This is a potential banana peel game for the Irish, but it’s one that I think they will pull out. I like them to win, but I also think that the Wildcats will cover here, if only just.
