Why Bet on TCU?

The Frogs (3-2) lost 52-46 to the Sooners. Kenny Hill threw for 449 yards and five touchdowns for the Frogs, including scoring strikes of 64 and 74 yards to Taj Williams in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough. Of Hill’s two fourth quarter tosses to Williams, the later ended a stretch of 22 consecutive points for the Frogs that got them within 49-46. Williams finished with five catches for 210 yards. The Sooners outscored TCU 42-3 over the second and third quarters to build a 25-point lead before the Frogs scored on three consecutive drives in the fourth quarter. TCU coach Gary Patterson was unhappy with the officiating during the loss, including an intentional grounding call made on the Horned Frogs’ final offensive drive. Patterson said he did not believe TCU’s Hill should have been flagged for grounding on a drive that ultimately failed in four plays and yielded minus-10 yards, securing the Sooners’ victory. “The bottom line to it is, in his estimation, [Hill] didn’t have anyone to throw to,” Patterson said of the official who threw he flag. “Mine was he got hit, so I don’t know how he can tell he couldn’t throw it to him.” A first-quarter sack by Denzel Johnson, which forced a fumble, extended TCU’s school record streak to 35 games with at least one sack. It is the second-longest active streak in the nation, behind only Ohio State with 39. TCU extended its nation’s-best streak to 35 consecutive games scoring at least 20 points. TCU lost at home for just the 16th time in 16 seasons with Patterson as head coach. The Horned Frogs are now 76-16 at Amon G. Carter Stadium under Patterson. TCU scored for the 298th consecutive game. It’s the nation’s second-longest current streak and fourth all-time in NCAA history.

The Jayhawks (1-3) lost 55-19 at Texas Tech last week. The Jayhawks took some time to get going against a defense that was giving up 531.3 yards per game coming into the contest. They punted on their first six possessions and didn’t get a touchdown until late in the first half after QB Ryan Willis came in for starter Montell Cozart. It was KU’s 40th straight loss away from home. Sophomore wide receiver Steven Sims Jr., hauled in his fifth touchdown of the 2016 season at Texas Tech. Sims’ five TDs tie for the most by a Kansas receiver during a season since the 2009 campaign when Dezmon Briscoe caught nine scores and Kerry Meier collected eight trips to the end zone. The Kansas defense has been thrust into a tough spot following 13 turnovers by the offense in 2016. The Kansas defense ranks third in the country, though, with 9.8 tackles-for- loss per game, totaling 39 through the first four contests. KU will have a new QB this week as Willis will replace Cozart. As a backup, Willis is 31-of- 53 for 374 yards and three TDs this season. Cozart, a junior, was 57-of- 90 for 581 yards with six touchdowns and four interceptions. Willis came into the season as the presumed starter, but a wrist injury caused him to get behind in fall camp, and Cozart ended up winning the job. TCU is 9-6 vs. the Jayhawks in Lawrence, 9-2- 2 in Fort Worth and 2-0- 2 in the four games (1944-47) played in Kansas City. A 20-6 TCU victory at Kansas in 2012 marked the Horned Frogs’ inaugural Big 12 game. Since beginning Big 12 play in 2012, TCU has won all four meetings with Kansas. Each game has been decided by 14 points or less, a total of 34 points.
