NCAAF Teams to Bet On Week 1 to Cover the Spread

NCAAF Teams to Bet On Week 1 to Cover the Spread

There is perhaps nothing better than the opening week of college football. There is something truly special about this sport and you can’t help but be hyped up when a new season begins. We have probably all been looking at the Week 1 odds and thinking how to best use our bankroll. Some bettors like to pick some low hanging fruit in the opening few weeks of the season, while others go all out from the start. I have been looking at the ATS odds and trying to settle on a few surefire picks, while reminding myself that there really is no such thing as a surefire play. Still, I have picked out a few games where I will definitely be playing the spread. Let’s get right to it so you can get ready to bet against the NCAAF odds.

College Football Teams that Will Cover No Matter the Spread on Week 1

Bowling Green Falcons (+34) Vs Tennessee Volunteers

Don’t get me wrong here, this is a game that I fully expect the Volunteers to go out and win, but this is also a team that has not been particularly good for a few years now. A straightforward non=conference win is a good way to start the season and build some confidence, but that 34-point spread makes me more than a little nervous. Yes, the Bowling Green Falcons have been poor ATS, but so have the Volunteers, who are just 6-13-1 ATS in their last 20 games as a favorite. I think a more realistic result where would see Tennessee winning by 21-24 points.

Ohio State Buckeyes (-13 ½) Vs Minnesota Golden Gophers

Despite once again being forced to reload after the NFL Draft, the Buckeyes are once again in as one of the favorites to win the National Championship this season. They have what looks to be a bit of a tricky game in the opening week of the season, but the point spread is one that I really like them to cover. After all, if you look at the last 10 meetings between these teams, Ohio State has won all 10 and by an average of around 23 points per game. This looks like a straightforward pick in Week 1.

Penn State Nittany Lions (+4 ½) Vs Wisconsin Badgers

This looks to me like one of the better matchups of the opening week, as well as being a game that might be worth betting on when it comes to the spread. If you look back at the last 10 meetings between these two teams, you see that Penn State covered the spread in 7 of those games. They are in fact 6-1 ATS in the last 7 meetings. They also went 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games of last season, although that might not mean so much when looking at this one.

Michigan State Spartans Vs Northwestern Wildcats (-3 ½)

The Northwestern Wildcats are coming off a very good season and a trip to the Big Ten Conference Game in 2020. They will start out the season against a Michigan State team that struggled last season, winning just 2 conference games. They closed out last season by covering in 6 of their last 7 games and are also on a run where they have covered in 4 of their last 5 games as a favorite. This 3 ½ point spread is certainly manageable and one that I like Northwestern to cover.
