2021 Valero Alamo Bowl Betting: Oregon vs Oklahoma Odds

A pair of teams who for most of the season looked as if they would be in the four-team College Football Playoff (CFP) field with the inside track to win their respective conferences will face off in the Valero Alamo Bowl on December 29th in San Antonio, Texas with interim head coaches on the sideline. Oregon was 9-1 before getting waxed twice by Utah in their last three games, most recently 38-10 in the Pac 12 championship game, and Oklahoma was defeated 37-33 by rival Oklahoma State in the annual Bedlam game and finished their season at 10-2. Let’s take a closer look at the upcoming match between Oregon and Oklahoma so you can bet against the College Football Bowl odds

Oregon Ducks Betting Preview

Oregon went into the Horseshoe at Ohio State in Week 2 of the college football season and defeated the Buckeyes 35-28 and rode that victory to fourth in the polls despite a loss to a bad Stanford team before getting exposed by Utah in a 38-7 loss on the road. The Ducks weren’t particularly impressive for most of the season and what happened in their two losses to Utah simply put Oregon back to a spot where they probably belong, fourteenth in the CFP rankings.

The Oregon Ducks will be playing in the Alamo Bowl with an interim head coach after the departure of Mario Cristobal for Miami, but they still have dual-threat quarterback Anthony Brown, who threw for 16 touchdowns while running for another nine. He’ll need to perform better than he did against Utah in his last outing when he was held to 147 passing yards while being sacked four times and producing negative yardage on the ground.

Oklahoma Sooners Betting Preview

After appearing dominant for their first nine games, the Sooners struggled against Baylor in a 27-14 loss, in a 28-21 win over Iowa State and closed the season with the loss to Oklahoma State, getting outscored 75-85 in their final three games, after which Lincoln Riley resigned to become the head coach at USC. The Sooners have dropped to 16th in the CFP rankings, but they are probably better than that considering their two losses came to teams that are currently ranked in the top ten.

The most dangerous aspect of Oklahoma is their offensive balance, averaging 177 yards on the ground and 266 yards through the air, making them difficult to defend and it took two terrific defenses by Oklahoma State and Baylor to slow them down. On defense, the Sooners have performed well, holding six of their opponents to 23 points or less.

Oregon vs Oklahoma Predictions and Picks

Looking past the Ohio State win, Oregon has failed to appear dominant in what turned out to be a poor season for the Pac-12 where the conference sent just half of its teams to bowl games and took a bad loss to an eventual 3-9 Stanford team. Oklahoma doesn’t pose the defensive threat to the Ducks that Utah did, but Oregon will be severely challenged by a potent Sooner offense behind their own dual-threat quarterback in Caleb Williams, so give the points and take Oklahoma.

Prediction: Oklahoma 37 Oregon 28

Pick: Oklahoma -7, Over 60
