Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

Georgia Tech (5-3 SU, 3-4 ATS) picked up a thrilling 38-35 win over Duke this past Saturday as quarterback Jackets QB Justin Thomas had a career game by accounting for 459 yards and four touchdowns, including a jaw-dropping 195 rushing yards. Wide receiver Clinton Lynch caught three passes for 91 yards and two scores to lead the Wolfpack to victory. For the season, Thomas has passed for 1,024 yards and six touchdowns while also leading the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in rushing with 479 yards and five scores. Wideout Ricky Jeune has caught team-high 19 passes for 312 yards and one touchdown.

North Carolina Tar Heels

North Carolina (6-2 SU, 5-3 ATS) pounded ACC rival Virginia in its 35-14 Week 9 conference win as quarterback Mitch Trubisky completed 24-of-31 passes for 310 yards and three touchdowns while running back Elijah Hood rushed 16 times for 107 yards and one touchdown and wideout Bug Howard caught seven passes for 109 yards and one touchdown. For the season, Trubisky has passed for an impressive 2,378 yards with 18 touchdowns while Hood leads the rushing attack with 476 yards and five touchdowns on 96 carries. Wide receiver Ryan Switzer leads the Tar Heels with 66 catches for 678 yards and three scores.

Expert Prediction and Pick

I know Georgia Tech has won two straight games, but I’m not very impressed with those wins coming against tiny Georgia Southern and mediocre Duke. Not only that, but the Yellow Jackets are just is 3-9 ATS in their last dozen games against a team with a winning record and 4-12-1 ATS in their last 17 games overall. Georgia Tech is also an uninspiring 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games following an ATS loss and 1-5-1 ATS in their last seven road games. Conversely, North Carolina has gone 10-4 ATS in their last 14 games against a team with a winning record and 5-2 ATS in their last seven games in the month of November. North Carolina is also 5-2 ATS in their last seven games overall and a consistent 21-6 ATS in their last 27 home games against a team with a winning road record. While Georgia Tech has scored 34 points or more in each of their last three games, North Carolina has limited each of their last two opponents to 14 points or less and certainly won’t allow the Yellow Jackets to simply run all over them with their triple option rushing attack. While I’m not real fond of the nearly double-digit spread, I’m going to back North Carolina to get the win and narrow ATS cover.
